PocketBook devices not intended for sale in the Russian Federation. "Gray" and "white" devices

"White" devices are devices officially delivered to the Russian Federation. Such readers undergo full customs clearance, they are fully certified for the Russian Federation, produced taking into account all the requirements of the legislation of the Russian Federation, equipped with Russified firmware with a full list of applications localized for the Russian Federation. "White" readers are sold with a full manufacturer's warranty (PocketBook), which since April 2016 is 2 years from the date of sale. In case of a problem with a "white" device, you can contact any PocketBook service center in the Russian Federation and get qualified support. If the case is recognized as warranty, the repair will be carried out free of charge during the entire warranty period.

"Gray" devices are devices imported into the Russian Federation unofficially, and in some cases even illegally. Some companies or even small online stores can import PocketBook devices on their own, bypassing official channels. Such devices are intended for the markets of other countries - Poland, Germany, Ukraine, etc. As a result, these readers may not have Russification, pre-installed applications may not work on the territory of the Russian Federation, such readers may not have access to PocketBook services intended for Russian markets - for example, PocketBook Cloud.

And most importantly: warranty repair of a "gray" device is possible only from the seller of such a device or in the country for sale in which the reader is intended. As a result, the PocketBook warranty will not be valid on the territory of the Russian Federation. Repair of a "gray" device will be possible only on a paid basis, and in some cases it will not be possible at all. Moreover, it is not always possible even to install firmware from a similar model intended for the Russian market on a “gray” device.

How to distinguish a "gray" PocketBook from a "white" one? To do this, it is enough to inspect the retail packaging of the device. On the back of the box or on its end there is a sticker with the serial number, production date of the device and other identification data. In the serial number of the “gray” PocketBook reader, the 15th character is the letter W, and in the serial number of the “white” reader, the number 2 is in the 15th place. In the “ITEM No. / SKU” field at the very end after the model and color identifier in The number of the "gray" PocketBook reader indicates the letter combination WW, and the number of the "white" reader is RU.

What is the difference between water protection in PocketBook 641 Aqua 2 and PocketBook 632 Aqua?

There are two types of water protection in readers - implemented with the help of tooling and implemented with the help of a water-repellent gel.

What can be done to make the PocketBook reader last as long as possible?

For simplicity, any electronic device can be compared to a light bulb: no one knows exactly when it will burn out, it can happen at absolutely any moment. As a rule, PocketBook readers work for years on end, even with not very careful handling - their service life easily reaches five, seven, or even ten years. PocketBook is completely confident in the quality of its products and proves this by providing an extended warranty for its devices: 2 years when purchased in regular stores and 3 years when purchasing readers on the site.

The main advice that can be given to the user of an electronic reader is to be careful with it. Do not carry in bags or backpacks with hard objects. To sit on the reader. Don't drop it on the floor. These tips are relevant not only in the case of readers, but also for any other portable electronics.

Of course, falls and bumps can be completely random. To protect the PocketBook reader from the effects of shocks and falls, as well as to keep the body and screen of the device in its original form for as long as possible, . All of them are designed in such a way as to protect the screens and cases of readers as reliably as possible.

If you come into contact with water and other liquids while reading - for example, you regularly read at the table, in the bathroom, by the pool or on the beach - we recommend our protected models: and.

What should I do if the PocketBook reader got caught in the rain or fell into the water?

Let's start with the fact that in the PocketBook line there are models with water protection, and they are not afraid of rain. The PocketBook 641 Aqua 2 model is completely sealed and is not afraid of even immersion in water for up to an hour, while the PocketBook 632 Aqua models are not afraid of splashes and short-term immersions.

If you have a reader of another model (unprotected), and this reader has come into contact with water, then you should turn off the device as soon as possible and take it to a service center. If we do not have the opportunity to immediately go to the service center, then we can, for example, put the reader in rice for a day, which is a good absorbent. But you should not put the reader on the battery in order to speed up the drying process - a strong thermal effect can have the most detrimental effect on electronics.

One way or another, a reader that has been in the water should be taken to a service center as soon as possible and as quickly as possible. Even after rice.

Please note that the occurrence of problems as a result of water ingress is not covered by the warranty. So the repair will be carried out on a paid basis. The repair price (even approximate) cannot be announced before the diagnosis. Sometimes water destroys one particular part, sometimes a completely different one, and sometimes all at once. This depends on the cost of the repair.

If you do not take any action to "rescue" the device after it gets into the water or rain, then it is difficult to predict its future fate. It happens that a small amount of water causes damage to the electronics of the reader, and it will work for many more years. However, most often contact with water leads to corrosion, short circuits and other unpleasant moments. All this, in turn, leads to the fact that the device fails in a matter of hours, days or weeks.

What should I do if I left my device on the beach in the open sun at high temperatures?

Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight is definitely not good for electronic devices. First of all, because due to heating, the battery can partially or completely fail, or even explode. In addition, the rays of the sun can, for example, melt the plastic of the device case. This will not lead to detrimental consequences, but it will not bring pleasure anyway.

If your reader has been exposed to the sun for a long time (for example, several hours), you should immediately turn off the device and let it cool down. If you have even the slightest doubt that the reader is working properly after it is turned on again (for example, it starts to work noticeably slower or heats up during operation), you should turn off the device again and contact the service center. Our experts will diagnose and, if necessary, perform repairs.

Please note that the occurrence of problems as a result of overheating in the sun is not a warranty case. So the repair will be carried out on a paid basis. The repair price (even approximate) cannot be announced before the diagnosis.

How to update PocketBook reader firmware?

To update the firmware of PocketBook models with Wi-Fi, you need to do the following: connect to a Wi-Fi network and go to the “Settings” -> “Software” -> “Software Update” section. The device will search for available updates on the Internet and, if there is a new firmware, it will download and install it - just like in the case of modern smartphones and tablet computers. Please note that usually the firmware update file is about 100-200 MB in size, so the download process can take quite a long time (depending on the connection speed).

To update the firmware of PocketBook models without Wi-Fi, go to the "Support" section on the official PocketBook website, select your model and download the archive with the firmware to your computer in the appropriate section of the website page. On the computer, extract the SWUPDATE.BIN firmware file from the archive. This file should be written to the root directory of the memory of the reader or MicroSD card using a USB cable or card reader. Next, turn off the reader and turn it on with the page turning keys held down. As a result, the process of installing a new firmware will start.

For PocketBook readers with Wi-Fi, the method of installing updates from MicroSD or internal memory is also available, described in the previous paragraph

On average, the process of updating the PocketBook reader firmware takes 10-15 minutes.

What memory cards are supported by PocketBook readers?

PocketBook readers are compatible with MicroSD/MicroSDHC cards up to 32 GB. Cards with a speed class from 2 to 10 are supported. The manufacturer of the card can be any.

The memory card must be inserted into the slot on the PocketBook reader according to the instructions for a specific model (with the contacts up or down). To fix the card in the slot, you need to bring it into the slot with your fingernail until it clicks so that the card does not peek out of the slot. When inserting a memory card, the device must be turned off and disconnected from the computer.

PocketBook 641 Aqua 2, PocketBook 632 and PocketBook 632 Aqua do not support memory cards.

What is the password on the TTS module files downloaded from your site?

TTS voice module files must have the .pbi extension. The file you downloaded to your device obviously has a .zip archive extension and is an archive. Unzip the file on the computer (right-click on the file - "Unzip" or "Extract files" depending on the type of archiver you have installed) and write the .pbi file obtained after this procedure into the reader's memory.

In this case, resave the file by selecting the type “all files” in the save path selection window, and add the extension “.pbi” at the end of the name line.

All my games and apps are gone. What to do?

In this case, you need to format the internal memory of the device. To do this, select "Settings" -> "Maintenance" -> "Format internal memory", or "Settings" -> "Advanced settings" -> "System" -> "Format internal memory".

Please note that formatting will delete all user files from the device's internal memory. Therefore, before performing this procedure, it is recommended to make a backup copy of this data on a computer or an external memory card (this will not delete system files).

The system folder is not displayed. What to do?

If you do not see the system folder when you connect to a Windows PC, it means that it is hidden.

To access this folder, you must do the following.

1) Open the root folder of the device’s internal memory, select the “Service” section on the top panel of the window (if it is not visible by default, it is called by pressing the ALT button), and then select the “Folder Options” item

2) In the settings window that appears, select the "View" tab.

3) Next, you need to find (at the bottom of the list) the "Hide protected system files and folders" function and uncheck it, and put a period in front of the "Show hidden files and folders" option. After that, a warning will appear - confirm (yes) and then (apply) in it.

After that, hidden folders will appear in the root of the internal memory of the device, including the system folder.

Can I install additional applications in the PocketBook reader?

PocketBook readers do not support installation of additional applications.

Applications that have undergone special adaptation are already integrated into the firmware of our devices. The list of applications includes games, a gallery, a calendar, a calculator and a number of online services (in the case of models with Wi-Fi). All this in PocketBook readers is located in the "Applications" section.

There are unofficial "popular" ways on the Web to install additional applications in PocketBook readers, however, PocketBook is not responsible for the results of installation and operation of these applications. The user can try to install them at their own risk.

The computer does not recognize the device. What to do?

If the computer does not recognize the device, follow the recommendations below.

1) Make sure you are using the original cable supplied with your PocketBook reader. MicroUSB cables can be very different - of different quality and with different plug lengths, have different hardware configurations with absolutely identical appearance. Therefore, PocketBook recommends using only original supplied cables. If the original cable is damaged, .

2) Check if the device is connected to the computer correctly. Please note that you need to connect the reader to the PC only when it is turned on. Therefore, you must first turn on the reader and wait for the main menu to load, and only then connect to the computer.

We recommend checking the communication settings on the PocketBook reader using the following path: "Settings" -> "Maintenance" -> "USB mode" -> "Ask when connecting". (For PocketBook 622 with firmware 4.4, as well as for models 623, 624, 626, 614, 515, 801, select "Settings" -> "Advanced Settings" -> "System" -> "USB Mode" -> "Ask when connecting”; after that, return to the main menu using the “Back” scroll key.)

Next, connect the device to the PC using a USB cable; a window will appear on the device with a choice: "Communication with PC" or "Charging". Select "Communicate with PC". Next, go to “My Computer” on the computer: a removable disk should appear, which is defined as a PocketBook device.

3) Check if the cable is securely inserted into the USB connector on the computer case. Try connecting the USB cable to a different USB port on the PC. If you are using a desktop computer, try plugging the cable into the USB port on the back of the system unit.

4) If none of the above methods helped, format the internal memory of the device ("Settings" -> "Maintenance" -> "Format internal memory", or "Settings" -> "Advanced settings" -> "System" -> "Formatting Built-in Memory").

Please note that formatting deletes user files (books, photos, settings, accounts) from the device. Therefore, before performing this procedure, it is recommended that you back up your data on a computer or an external memory card.

How to delete files from PocketBook device?

There are two ways to delete files from PocketBook readers.

1) Connect your device to your computer with a USB cable. When the device is detected on the computer as a removable disk, enter the "Explorer" and delete unnecessary files by right-clicking on the file and selecting the "Delete" option.

2) Go to the "Books" or "Library" section on the device.

The use of universal charging adapters is allowed if the following technical parameters are met: voltage - 5V, current strength - from 1 A to 2.5 A, direct current.

How to set up a Wi-Fi connection?

To connect the device to Wi-Fi, you need to go to "Settings" -> "Wi-Fi" -> "Network access" and set "Enabled". Then you should select a network from the "Available networks" list and click on the selected network. If the network is password protected, you will need to enter it. After that, you will need to click on the "Connect" button; if the password is correct, the reader will connect to the network.

How to copy books to the device?

Turn on the PocketBook reader and connect it to the computer with a USB cable. A message will appear at the bottom of the reader's display: "Select USB mode": "Communicate with PC" or "Charging". Select "Communicate with PC". The device will be defined as a removable disk "PocketBook".

When copying files to the device, it is necessary to perform the same actions as when working with an external drive (for example: pressing the left mouse button - highlighting the desired file - right-clicking - copy - paste).

Also, all Wi-Fi-enabled PocketBook models support Dropbox and Books by e-mail services. The first allows you to copy books to the reader using the Dropbox cloud service, and the second - by sending to a special e-mail address associated with the reader. You can set up Dropbox and "Books by e-mail" services on the PocketBook reader here: "Settings" -> "Accounts and synchronization".

 3. The firmware / patch does not need to be unzipped - copy the zip file to the root of the SD card as is
 4. When flashing, everything that you had on the internal SD card will be erased (TTS, dictionaries, books) - therefore it is better to copy them to an external SD card.
 5. Patches like universal root or OpenGL don't remove anything from your internal SD card.
 6. Always copy everything you don't want to lose with any flashing to an external SD card. You never know what can happen and perhaps when you install some patch, something will go wrong and come to roll back the device.
 7. After each flashing, the first thing to do after go to Settings - Privacy and select "Return to original settings". With this operation, the system will completely remove the entire cache from Davlika, which will give you from a couple to more than ten megabytes of free memory for applications.

In order for the device to start flashing, you need to hold down the power button for a long time and select "Power off" in the menu that appears, after the device is completely turned off, hold down the "+" button (volume increase) and turn on the device. A picture of a green Android man will appear and progress is at the bottom.
 9. The flashing progress flow will stop somewhere in the middle. Do not be afraid, do not press anything, but just wait. The device will reboot itself and everything will be installed.
 10. All sorts of patches like universal root or OpenGL - installed by you at your own peril and risk, if something goes wrong, the manufacturer may refuse your warranty because you have these custom modifications installed. Also, no one is responsible for the results that you can get using programs that require root.
Attention! You need to flash from the first firmware. For example, if you have firmware 2.0.5, then you need to install 2.0.6

Firmware 2.0.6
First of allyou need to install this firmware.
Firmware 2.0.6 for Pocketbook IQ (zip, 462.94 MB)
Instructions for updating firmware 2.0.6 (pdf, 181.16 KB)

Firmware 2.1.1 and 2.1.2

As we already know, the software base of the IQ 701 is the Android system. Initially, the device was sold with version 2.0, then it was updated to 2.1. PocketBook has officially announced that it is not going to transfer the tablet to Android 2.2. The first firmware versions contained one large widget deployed to the entire main screen. It did not look very attractive, and there was enough unnecessary information in it. Therefore, PocketBook released update 2.1.1, where it left only the top widget of the last opened books, and filled the rest of the space with application shortcuts (firmware for PocketBook IQ 701).

Let's make a reservation in advance that the speed of the tablet, even with the latest firmware, leaves much to be desired. To achieve more or less smooth operation, you should install any Android launcher. IQ 701 users most often prefer Launcher Pro. There are several unofficial firmware, but they are either based on old versions of updates, or "cut out" too many pre-installed programs.

Note that the IQ 701 is the only “device” in our memory that required such impressive dances with a tambourine to take high-quality screenshots. To begin with, PocketBook was generally removed from the settings of the USB debugging item. Therefore, in order to achieve communication with the Android SDK on the computer, in any case, I had to install Launcher Pro and turn on the development mode through it in workarounds.

Of course, you could get root and use screenshot programs right on the tablet. The problem is that none of them wanted to work with the IQ 701. But even after DDMS saw the connected device, instead of clear pictures, it gave out such TV noises. Therefore, I had to take screenshots using the ingenious ADB command in the console. In general, PockeBook took great care to initially position the browsers to their device.

However, back to our system. We are greeted by new wallpapers and a set of labels that have replaced the former greenish disgrace.

In the list of widgets, we see that PocketBook is one of the partners of Yandex.

Standard wallpapers have been replaced, by the way, similar ones are present in the new PocketBook A10 tablet.

We consider the list of pre-installed programs. You can ignore the "Market" label. There is no real Android Market on the IQ 701, and our attempt to install it by other methods was not successful.

First of all, we go to Bookland in order to register the device and get access to the coveted free books. As it turned out, the shortcut simply opens the browser with a link to the online store, to put it mildly, not optimized for the tablet screen. Next, we are forced to go through the registration procedure and, in addition, first download the instructions, and then a separate archive. It will need to be moved from the "download" folder to the root of the memory card and then installed according to the principle of a new firmware. Next we get... nothing. Why such sophisticated gestures are needed is absolutely incomprehensible, since the service still continues to open as a regular site in the browser.

Not without a standard mail client.

I would like to take a look at the SlideMe application service, but alas.

The list of pre-installed games PocketBook has limited to only one Sudoku.

We would like to check the display in the browser of our site, but the built-in browser refused to open it.

In continuation of the "standard" theme, we observe an alarm clock.

The video player has been replaced with a non-standard one. Its convenience lies in the fact that when you “pull out” the bottom panel, a list of files available for playback appears. Let's talk about working with video right away. Users are in for a huge disappointment here, as the IQ 701 struggles to handle even the lowest resolution MP4 and 3GP files. Sadly, the tablet cannot be used as a portable video player. This is all the more strange because the device has a processor with a frequency of 800 MHz.

As for Yandex, thanks to its efforts, the device has a direct access to its own services, Money, Mail, and Trains.

For notes, a non-standard application is installed, in it you can leave both ordinary notes and draw on a virtual board.

The PokcetBook calendar has also been replaced with its own. Unfortunately, you cannot leave notes in its fields.

The calculator has been left unchanged.

Instead of getting together and making normal support for the Android Market, PocketBook experts considered it more correct to establish access to seven online program services at once. It makes no sense to describe their work, because they do not reach the “original” in any way.

The music player is left in its original version.

Of course, no PocketBook device can do without a dictionary. A thing that is certainly useful, except that I would like a more rational use of the space of the right column.

The file manager completes our tour, thanks to which we can view the contents of the memory card, and at the same time install applications from APK files.

A few words about installed games and applications. Resource-intensive programs on the IQ 701 clearly feel out of place, although many popular developments "went" without problems. As for games, you will have to limit yourself to casual crafts, since the tablet categorically refuses to work normally with 3D. In addition, his accelerometer is "knocked down", so the games associated with him also disappear.

Finally, we got to the "nail" of the program - the application for reading books. To be more precise, it is integrated with the catalog of available literature, which displays all supported files in a continuous list. This, you see, is not very convenient.

It is allowed to create so-called "shelves", but you need to add each book to them separately, so to be honest, it is often easier to use a file manager to launch the desired book. In addition to the main bookmark with a list of books, there are sections of the history with a list of opened books, "Favorites" and a section of the Bookland store.

We have already indicated the formats supported by the reader in the characteristics. The huge advantage of the IQ 701 over any non-Android TFT reader lies in solving a few fundamental problems. Firstly, there is finally support for content and footnotes, and secondly, the DOC format is no longer "exclusive" to E Ink e-books.

Therefore, only the battery life and the impossibility of reading in the sun remain among the effective claims to TFT. However, on the last point, do not forget that at night and in the absence of lighting, the owners of the E Ink reader have to resort to the help of funny gadgets like backlit covers and sticky miniature flashlights.

In the open book window, there is a hidden toolbar at the bottom. By touching it, we call a row with the ability to adjust the font, as well as go to the next / previous page or to a specific sheet. However, the called panel takes up extra space, so it has to be hidden back. In this case, flipping occurs in two ways. The first is to touch from right to left or left to right, depending on the direction of the page change. The second and easiest is to use the volume buttons.

In principle, there are enough settings; they cannot boast of some fundamental differences between the reading application and other developers.

Among all the tested files, problems were noticed only with the RTF format - the program opened it for an unacceptably long time. The rest of the books were read without errors. And, importantly, without sudden paragraph breaks, which is what TFT readers are so famous for.

Viewing PDF magazines left a rather positive impression. Zooming and scrolling is fast, but the decision to use a program ruins one moment. The application does not know how to double-tap to zoom, and on the subsequent double-tap to show the page at 100% scale. This greatly complicates comfortable reading.

FBReader, Cool Reader, ezPDF and RepliGo Reader - this is the list of readers that are always ready to help if the pre-installed "reader" does not suit the user.

In conclusion, it is impossible not to say about the battery life. Despite the difference in battery capacity, both devices give approximately the same battery life. Depending on the brightness of the screen in reading mode, the devices can last 6-9 hours. Video playback is limited to a "ceiling" of 3-4 hours. This is quite a normal result for mobile devices. Even pricier competitors can't match the essential opening of autonomy.

Hello %username%,
Today, I want to tell you about the PocketBook IQ701 e-book based on android, finally, after long BDSM preludes of expectations, a new firmware for this device (2.0.6) has been released. This prompted me to write this thread. Here I will talk about the device itself, as well as about the quests that the "happy" owner of this device has to solve. If this is of interest to you, welcome under cat. (many pics)

Preamble

A few months ago, after a 2-week study of the e-reader market, I purchased a PocketBook IQ701. Looking ahead, I’ll say that the device itself, before updating the firmware, just lay on my shelf, since it was impossible to use it, you will learn the details from the second part of the article, but for now, let’s start.

Part one. Overview

Why IQ701

A reader with an understanding of the e-reader market may ask:
“So what the heck is the Pocketbook IQ 701? After all, there are a huge number of cool readers!”
I will answer in order:
1. There is a backlight (My wife reads at night, but the light annoys me).
2. The temptation of buns (Android with all the consequences).
3. Touch screen (I've been reading on a variety of devices for a long time and just can't imagine navigating on a screen larger than 2" without a touchscreen).
4. Quite a vigorous processor (I am sure that a 400 MHz processor will not be able to scroll through a 15 MB pdf properly, maybe in vain).
5. Pretty decent manufacturer, there are no special complaints about the product (or rather, there weren’t when I bought this “unit”).
6.Acceptable price.

Unboxing aka Unboxing

The packaging was prepared really decent, in the best traditions of eminent manufacturers

But they let us down with the equipment:
Box, Pocketbook IQ701, charger, cloth case, microSD card 2Gb and 500 books in fb2, as well as a guarantee and other pieces of paper. Yes, they saved on the USB cable.

Box inside:

The cover is made of velvety, dense fabric and is quite comfortable.

Appearance

The standard form factor for a tablet / book, I must admit the quality of workmanship is 4+, strong, there are no squeaks, until I removed the cover, 2 plastic cards broke, the infection fits very tightly. Good quality plastic. But the screen on the contrary is not protected and is easily scratched, so you will have to handle it appropriately. A sticker on the screen is not an option. A resistive touch is not a fountain anyway, but with a sticker, I think it will generally be bent.

Under the back cover you can see the internal memory slot and the battery. I tried to see what was under the battery, but I could not, apparently the factory workers did not spare the glue.

Color ... I was not lucky with the color when I ordered it, it was blue and red (just some kind of matrix), in general, in the picture red is closer to cherry, and blue was somehow dirty. As a result, I ordered red, and it turned out to be dark pink.

On the top: power button, reset, mini-USB, memory card slot.

On the right: a volume rocker and a hole for prying off the lid (as you can see, I already pry off).

On the left: Nefiga.

At the bottom: a headphone jack, stereo speakers (and quite loud), a charging jack and a charging indicator.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to charge this miracle from USB, since the charge voltage is 12 V.

The screen is average at 4-, the viewing angles are quite, except for the view from above - it has a color inversion. Goes blind in the sun, like most TFTs.

In bright sunlight, the screen looks like this (images are clickable, the brightness of devices is at maximum):

In the shade, but next to the sun's rays:

In a room with a fluorescent lamp on and average solar activity outside the window:

Part two

What are you complaining about?

After purchasing this device, I was very puzzled by the fact that the multifunctional mega-file was not included in the kit. after the first charge, it turned out that this unit absolutely does not fulfill the duties assigned to it. Reading books was terrible. it slowed down even when flipping through a simple txt file of 500kb. Surfing the Internet turned out to be a dubious pleasure, because he simply did not display some sites (lack of flash and fonts), and the browser crashed on some. There was no calendar at all. There was no market, for him SAM. The video works, but every other time (clearly encoded in mp4, 480p and less.). It was possible to listen to music (cool, I have a player with a 7" touch screen and weighing half a kilo). Sometimes the device just does not wake up, you have to juggle the battery. In addition, a couple of days later it turned out that this "player" sits down exactly 10 hours after removal from charging, and it doesn’t matter if you use it or not. (All of the above is true for firmware 2.0.2) Since the device was donated (and brought from another country), I couldn’t return it, therefore, I started smoking manuals and solving quests step by step, carefully prepared for users by Pocketbook.

Diagnosis

The main problems since the purchase were:
1. Spontaneous turning on of the device (which led to a rapid discharge of the battery).
2. A small amount of free memory for installing applications.
3. An external card is not always mounted when turned on.
4. Lack of a market.
5. Sometimes the sound disappears, it is solved by rebooting.
6. Sometimes the launcher goes into reboot.
7. Rarely, but it happens, it does not wake up and does not even respond to resets. You have to juggle the battery.
Here is the proof:

8. Video plays according to mood.

What has changed with the new firmware

The first two problems were solved after Pocketbook released firmware 2.0.5 (there were 2.0.3 and 2.0.4 before it, but they did not bring any significant improvements). The book stopped waking up God bless Pocketbook! , as well as in the new firmware part of the memory (1GB out of 2 on the internal microSD) is reserved for the system, and is available for installing applications.
And after the update, the following improvements were noticed:
The screen is more responsive to touch. The Pocketbook widget has become prettier and faster.
WI-FI clings normally, before there were sometimes breaks. The browser has become more stable. Unfortunately, this is where the improvements end.
Some problems can be solved programmatically. You can put the market, however, you have to tinker with android ID. For video I use RockPlayer, after adding OpenGL it supports hardware acceleration.

Usability

Frankly speaking, the device, even after the firmware, functions at a triple. Perhaps I want too much from the unfortunate reader, but you must admit that devices with similar hardware under android are quite capable of working without brakes not only in book mode. Yes, I must admit that if the book is not loaded with the Internet and films, then it may work without glitches, or it may not work at all. Here already as a chip will fall.
The charging time is about 3 hours after the update, the device works for 10 hours in book mode and about 5 hours with an average load (wi-fi, youtube, internet, movies).
WI-FI is normal, it works almost at the same distance as that of HTC HD2. There is TTS (Text to speech, though the accents are lame). Also, there is support for dictionaries and it works correctly.

To illustrate the operation of the device, I made several videos. All tests were carried out on a clean firmware 2.0.6. Of the applications, only Quick settings and Quadrant are installed. Before shooting, the device was rebooted to free up RAM.

Reading books of different sizes and formats (details in the video),
as well as a calendar, notes and a dictionary.

Internet and Quadrant (almost a fable). More videos at the request of the workers. Dropbox, gps-tracker.com.ua and asusmobile.ru

I tried to put a microSDHC class 6 4Gb card. Quadrant gave 231 points (against 285 with native 2GB). So, there is no point in faster memory.

Music, video, photo scrolling.

Conclusion

Why you can buy PocketBook IQ701

*Reading books, I must admit that the reader, which is tied to the widget, is very successful, because. supports many formats and easy navigation
* View photo
* Listening to music (Although sometimes there is some background noise)
* Surf the internet with Skyfire or Dolphin HD(Moderate)

Why you should not buy PocketBook IQ701

* View video
* Games and heavy applications
* Working with documents is not very convenient due to the resistive wheelbarrow

Pocketbook IQ701, according to the results of testing, is a very controversial device. On the one hand, it has pretty decent hardware, but on the other hand, very raw software. True, at the same time, it should be noted that the pocketbook company often finishes its devices (during the writing of the article, 2 firmware have been replaced, the last one is currently 2.0.6). But until this happens, I would not advise anyone to purchase this gadget. (Unless, of course, your name is Cyanogen and in the morning, instead of breakfast, do not fix the android kernel.)

P.s.: All of the above is purely my subjective opinion. Therefore, I beg your pardon if I offended by this topic, someone's religious worldviews, or destroyed the fragile youthful brain. Thank you for your attention and good luck to all of us!

UPD: A link to a video with heavier sites has been added next to the video on surfing on the Internet.
Thank you Tarakan.

It's time to take action...

The result of the happy use of the Pocketbook IQ 701 for a year was an unfortunate misunderstanding, overflowing the device's memory with vital programs and, as a result, at the next boot, Android was loaded, loaded, and did not boot.
Reset didn't help.

Time to make a decision.

I disassemble the device - I see a huge battery and a small SD card for 2 gigabytes.

How did you install the firmware.

Step one.

Studying the problem on the Internet. Visiting specialized sites, forums, social networks.

Result: Twenty open bookmarks of sites and, as a result, an approximate understanding of the next steps.

List of sites: IQ 701blogspot, w3bsit3-dns.com, etc.

Step two.

Downloading the required software.

Firmware from the official site:

Install as firmware from an external memory card

*.zip archive to the root of the external SDHC 16Gb in the machine.

Delete *.zip archive from the root of the SD card.

Adds a couple of applications - Superuser and Launcher Pro.

After installation, I was able to run many different programs and games that had not previously worked on our book.

Installing OGL for the video card

I set myself, but it feels like slowing down the screen without them worked faster, but this is a subjective opinion.

Checked EVERYTHING on his book works.

1. AirDroid - wifi access within the same Android and Windows network through a browser.

2. Open Android market for IQ 701
