Lenovo ideapad 100 15 games. Appearance, arrangement of elements

The Lenovo budget laptop category is represented by many models. Among them there was a place for Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY - a 15.6-inch laptop with 2 GB of RAM. This review will present its characteristics, reviews, as well as advantages and disadvantages.

Appearance

The design of the laptop is familiar, it is painted in a dark color. There is a sticker on the right side of the touchpad. When opening the laptop, attention is focused on the high hinges. In terms of functionality, this does not provide any advantage, but the visual effect is quite good. The screen is surrounded by a frame with a webcam at the top.

The case is quite easily soiled, so you will have to periodically clean it from fingerprints. On the left side there is an HDMi port, LAN, 2 USB connectors, and audio output. On the top edge there is a charging socket. There is no optical drive in this laptop.

Display

The Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY laptop has a 15.6-inch glossy screen with a resolution of 1366x768. Considering the cost of the device, the display can be considered acceptable. Taking into account all the nuances, in this regard the model can be given a rating of 2.5 out of 5.

Keyboard

The buttons press smoothly and make virtually no noise. Typing on the keyboard will be very convenient. The touchpad is of standard size and functions well.

Sound

One speaker is responsible for the sound quality, so the sound cannot be called too high-quality. It is better to listen to music with headphones.

Performance

The laptop runs on a dual-core Intel Celeron N2840 processor with 2-4 GB of RAM. The video adapter is integrated, so you won’t be able to play cool games on a laptop. This “stuffing” is only enough to run office applications. 500 GB of hard disk space is allocated for data storage.

Autonomy

The battery life is not very good - when surfing the Internet and playing video, the laptop will last about 4 hours without recharging. If you use the laptop actively, you will have to charge it periodically.

The budget segment of laptops is going through difficult times right now. It’s not easy for users to get used to the fact that today, when buying a laptop for less than 20,000 rubles, you get nothing more than a typewriter with a display without any options. Previously, parents bought inexpensive laptops for their children “for study and games”, certainly understanding that there were no talk of any modern games, but now laptops costing up to 20,000 rubles are unlikely to please you even with the opportunity to play MOBA games more or less comfortably on minimal settings.

We repeat this once again only so that you do not have any illusions and get rid of high expectations (if any still exist) from devices like the one we are going to review today.

And we will be considering a budget laptop with a 15-inch screen and basic hardware, a device addressed to those users who choose a laptop as a spare, utilitarian-working one, as they say “for every day,” or even the first laptop in their life . The price of this “not-at-all-miracle” technology is less than 18,000 rubles.

This representative of a large line of laptops has equipment Lenovo IdeaPad not rich, as you might guess. In a flat, small box you will only find the laptop itself, a small charger and documentation.

The battery is located under the bottom of the laptop, in the manner of ultrabooks. You won't be able to remove it unless you remove the bottom. We won’t mark this as a “minus” - you are unlikely to need to remove the battery often, and if you need to replace it, removing the lower part of the case is not so difficult. The size of the charger is pleasing - it is small and light, which (coupled with the fact that the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 itself is quite thin and not very heavy) will allow you to carry the laptop charger with you even in a small backpack or bag.

By the way, about bags and backpacks. You will definitely need a variety of accessories, and you can find them in large quantities at excellent prices on our website in the “Laptop Accessories” section, so we advise you to immediately buy at least an external mouse for your laptop, because, unfortunately, this laptop has a touchpad. not very convenient.

Since we are talking about the touchpad, we can smoothly move on to the advantages, disadvantages and specific design of the laptop case, as well as performance assessment.

The laptop looks modest, not repulsive, but also does not evoke any enthusiastic emotions. The matte corrugated plastic of the case cover is not very pleasant to the touch (it feels cheap), but it does not particularly attract fingerprints and traces of use. The lid bends slightly under pressure, but it cannot be called flimsy, but you should still be careful.

Other parts of the body - the bottom and the working surface - are made of the same matte plastic, only without corrugation. When you open the laptop, you get the impression of a careless design: not only do the hinges stick out sharply under the display, they also have gaps through which steel elements are visible to the naked eye. Dust will definitely accumulate here and will have to be blown out.

The display is framed by a scratch-resistant, practical matte frame; at the top in the middle there is a peephole for a mediocre camera (0.3 MP) for communicating via the Internet.

The working surface is quite standard, in the upper left corner of which there is a power button. A disadvantage can be considered the fact that there is no indication on this panel; all the lights are located on the front edge of the case, so when you turn on the laptop it is not always clear whether the button worked or not.

Next we will criticize the keyboard. At first glance, it is full-size, with a dedicated number pad, but in reality this is not the case. The fact is that the engineers decided to abandon a number of auxiliary buttons (Home, End, PgUp/PgDn, etc.) in order to squeeze the entire island-type keyboard unit onto the working surface. Also, the corner Enter was subject to “sanctions”; its size is now the same as that of a regular key; it is not so easy to quickly find it “blindly”. The keys themselves, made of simple plastic, have a very unpleasant short travel and poor response; typing text is completely inconvenient, although, most likely, some adaptation will develop with prolonged use.

Under the keyboard block there is an unsightly touchpad with dedicated buttons. It’s too small, the sensor doesn’t work well, and the “gestures” attached to its functionality, like switching between open applications and scrolling, don’t always work.

On the right side of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 there are no ports at all; there is only a DVD+-RW optical drive tray and a Kensington security lock slot. All ports and connectors are clustered together on the right side, and exclusively in the lower part of the case. This decision is unfortunate, we don’t know what made Lenovo designers do this, but it clearly doesn’t add any advantages to the laptop. Manufacturers have been greedy with USB ports; there are only two of them in the laptop - USB 2.0 and USB 3.0.

The sound is not up to par either. The volume reserve of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 is small, the sound is flat, bass and low notes seem to be suppressed, and high notes rattle. In general, if you don’t plan to work with headphones, definitely buy external speakers.

In contrast, we note a positive point: Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 runs on the current Windows 10 Home x64 operating system. The OS was definitely successful and a pleasure to use, although the hardware on this laptop is unable to unleash its full potential.

Now about the hardware itself. The laptop is powered by an entry-level Intel Celeron Dual Core N2840 (Bay Trail-M) processor with integrated Intel HD graphics, assisted by a modest 2GB of RAM. In this configuration, the laptop will be a good machine for the office (say, for a secretary); there will be enough power to use a desktop suite of work-related applications and Internet surfing. The laptop is not intended for games, demanding programs and resource-intensive professional applications; its mission is to be a simple “every day” laptop. As for the space for storing text documents and other utilitarian files, it is more than enough - 500 GB on the hard drive.

The display in the laptop is glossy, with a diagonal of 15 inches. The picture quality is not “example of the genre”, but not repulsive either, the colors are tolerable, the brightness and contrast are adjusted without problems. Disadvantages - small viewing angles and resolution “from the last century” - 1366 x 768 pixels. What's really frustrating are these very viewing angles. While horizontally, surprisingly, they are quite good, vertically the colors are distorted and disappear completely even with a small change in the angle of the display. The specifics of a budget device, what can I say.

Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD is an interesting mid-price laptop with its own strengths and weaknesses. At first glance, it looks more like a budget model.

The design of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD is quite simple and well recognizable. It looks quite nice and not completely boring, but without any frills. The body is completely plastic: the outside has a fine “waffle” texture, and the inside is simply rough. The surfaces themselves, although matte, are like a magnet for dust and fingerprints, which are clearly visible in the light. To avoid looking sloppy, proper care will be required. Fortunately, everything can be cleaned up quite easily using improvised means.

In terms of dimensions and weight, we have a typical “tag”. The laptop cannot be called ultra-compact, and it is more designed for use in stationary conditions at home or in the office, but if necessary, it can be taken with you on the road.

The display unit is mounted with two standard hinges located almost along the edges of the base. The hinges are quite tight, you won’t be able to open them with one hand, but the fixation is simply excellent. For convenience, there are protrusions in the front part, so there will be no problems with prying.

As for the build quality of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD, everything is quite good: the parts fit quite well, there are no critical gaps, there is only play at the plug in place of the optical drive. Rigidity is also within normal limits - the display lid flexes a little, and the under-palm area and base are pliable only in the case of deliberate and strong pressure.

The model is equipped with a full-size island-type keyboard (333.5 x 100 mm) with an additional numeric keypad. The keyboard itself is secured quite well and does not press through during operation. The keycaps are flat, and they are based on the familiar scissor-membrane mechanism, which has a short and very quiet stroke with comfortable tactile feedback.

Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD is equipped with a 15.6-inch display (BOEhydis NT156WHM-N12) with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and a pixel density of 100 PPI. Of course, the resolution is not high, but users who are not spoiled by flagship laptops and smartphones will be quite satisfied. The matrix itself is made using TN+Film technology and has a glossy finish with LED backlighting. Vertical viewing angles are small, horizontal viewing angles are quite good, which is typical for this type of matrix.

Beneath the unpretentious appearance lies a decent hardware platform, represented by a combination of a 4-thread Intel Core i5 series processor from the still current Intel Haswell series, 8 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD drive and an NVIDIA GeForce 920MX mobile video card. Thanks to this, I was pleasantly pleased with the speed and responsiveness of the system. The laptop handles office multimedia tasks well and allows you to play not only simple games, but even many modern demanding projects at minimum graphics settings in HD resolution. At the same time, it is not very noisy and remains comfortable for long-term use.

Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD will be able to satisfy the needs of an undemanding user who not only works and absorbs multimedia content, but also doesn’t mind playing occasionally.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 100 is a thin and affordable entry-level laptop that should have everything you need to be productive and entertained. Is this so and I will try to figure it out in this review.

Below are the holes for the passive cooling system.
The build quality of the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop is excellent - nothing creaks or plays, the screen rises easily, but at the same time is clearly fixed in the installed position.
The weight of the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop is less than two kilograms - 1.9 kg in the current configuration and exactly 2 kg in the configuration with a DVD drive, and taking into account the compact and lightweight power supply, the laptop will not burden the user much when traveling.

Ergonomics

The keyboard layout is familiar, special thanks for the number pad on the right, and in general the convenience of the Lenovo 100-15IBY keyboard can be highly appreciated. The keyboard also performed well in operation (the entire text of this review was typed on the laptop under test). The F1-F12 keys work with the Fn button by default, and without it the volume, brightness, and other functions work. For those who find this behavior unusual, you can change the settings once in the BIOS (you will need a paper clip to press the Novo button).
(img:13:click:big)
The touchpad of the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop supports two and three finger gestures.
The sound quality of the Lenovo 100-15IBY is satisfactory - the only speaker is quite quiet and when watching a movie you will need to turn the volume up to maximum or close to it.
The Wi-Fi of the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop on the Realtek RTL8723BE chip operates in the 2.4 MHz range and, using the included software, allows you to organize a hotspot - distribute wired Internet to other wireless devices (it is recommended to connect up to five devices simultaneously).
The screen is moderately bright - it is quite comfortable to work indoors at a brightness of 50-75%, but it is no longer possible to work at a minimum. For the street, 100% brightness is already not enough, which is expected from a TN matrix.
The Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop video card is an integrated Intel® chipset with four execution units.
The backlighting of the screen is quite uniform
(img:17:click:big)
The viewing angles of the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop are also expected from a TN-film matrix
(img:18:click:big)
At less extreme angles, the picture is quite decent - watching a film together will not be a problem.
Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop matrix from Chi Mei with a pixel density of 101 PPI
The left arrangement of the few USB ports seemed convenient to me - I am right-handed and when working at a desk to the right of the laptop, I usually have a mouse or graphics tablet.

Configuration and specifications

To analyze the filling, we will use specialized programs such as CPU-Z and Crystal DiskInfo

(img:15:click:big)

HW info
(img:16:click:big)

Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop performance

To evaluate the performance of the storage system, we will use Crystal DiskMark 5.1.2
(img:19:click:big)
The hdd speed of the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop of 110 MB/s for reading and writing is a very good indicator, and by replacing the disk with an SSD you can boost performance well without sacrificing storage capacity - an empty slot for a DVD drive leaves hope for installing a second disk (via corresponding adapter).
And to evaluate processor performance we use CINEBENCH R15
(img:20:click:big)
As usual, the tests were carried out after installing all updates and unloading all additional programs from memory, and energy-saving options were disabled in the power settings.
It is quite expected that modern 3D games cannot handle this configuration:
CS GO launched, but produced no more than 12 FPS on minimum settings
(img:21:click:big)
The situation is no better with other resource-intensive games, while casual and children's games are doing great. Crayon Physics Deluxe, WorldOfGoo, and the “Earned” series of games work without problems.
(img:22:click:big)
Also, games of the last decade – the second parts of Half-Life and Portal – launched without problems and at maximum settings.
(img:23:click:big)

Heat and noise

Thanks to the low power consumption of the processor (TDP 7.5 W), cooling is easily handled by a passive system - the heating of the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop is minimal.
(img:24:click:big)
Temperatures were measured after an hour-long stress test in a fairly warm room.
The absence of a fan also affected the silence - the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop has absolutely no noise of any kind (the tested model does not have a DVD drive, and I was unable to hear the HDD).

Autonomy

The battery life of the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop was measured by the BatteryEater Pro 2.70 program at 100% brightness and Wi-Fi turned on; 2 hours and 25 minutes passed before the laptop turned off. The same operating time was obtained when playing a video file over Wi-Fi.
Moving the video file to the hard drive with wireless interfaces turned off (airplane mode) and brightness reduced to 25% allowed to increase the battery life to 3 hours 20 minutes.

Pre-installed software for Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop

Time-limited software:

Just Visiting automatically reminds users of upcoming special events based on past photo collections.
The application can be purchased separately, but for users of Lenovo laptops it is free and represents a rather interesting bonus.
Lenovo OneKey Recovery is software for backing up and restoring data on your computer. In case of system failures, it can be used to restore the system partition to its original state. In addition, you can create custom backups and then easily restore data from them if necessary.

Conclusions

The Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop is suitable for a non-demanding user for solving everyday tasks or as a first computer for a schoolchild, while you will most likely be hated due to the inability to play modern games, but such solutions have a positive effect on academic performance.
Of course, I would like to see a screen with larger viewing angles and a more capacious battery, but this would be a completely different budget.

Lenovo is focused on producing laptops in an affordable price segment, thanks to which it occupies one of the leading positions in sales of budget laptops. In August 2015, the American vendor introduced a new line of laptop computers - Lenovo IdeaPad 100 15. Let's consider the capabilities of the least expensive representative of this model range.

Main purpose

Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 is an affordable solution for everyday life. The Intel Celeron N2840 processor with 2 cores with a frequency of 2.16 GHz and the integrated graphics card from Intel are not intended, but this tandem copes well with the smooth operation of the browser, video player and programs like MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

The 15.6-inch display with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels and a glossy finish has a TN+film matrix. LCD panels made using this technology produce glare in the sun, but working indoors with a TN matrix is comfortable. The battery lasts up to 3 hours on a single charge, and it is not removable. And this is another proof that The laptop is designed for use in “office-home” mode: You won’t be able to forget about the power source for a long time.

We note the presence of a card reader, a Web camera (0.3 MP, HD format), Wi-Fi standard 802.11 b/g/n and a 1 Gbit/s network adapter. These are features that are significant for office work.

Behavior in games

The manufacturer does not indicate the generation of the Intel HD Graphics graphics adapter: here is the “unnamed” low-level Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail), built into some Atom models (the Intel Celeron N2840 is based on this architecture), nettops and systems on a chip. The video card supports DirectX 11 and is even based on the same architecture as the more powerful 4000th generation graphics, but instead of 16 unified processors, it uses only 4 (max. frequency 792 MHz). An analysis of its performance in games is presented in the table below.

The Intel Celeron N2840 processor cannot boast of modern features such as hardware virtualization or Hyper-Threading, which also affect the system's performance in games.

Among the “advantages” of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 in terms of gaming is the ability to increase RAM up to 8 GB: this is enough to run undemanding games.

Owners' verdict

You can only get a complete picture of the performance of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 laptop based on genuine consumer opinions. After analyzing reviews from several popular resources, we will compare the positive and negative qualities of the device.

Thumbs up:

  • Combination of price and quality: similar configurations cost on average $50 more;
  • Compatibility with current operating systems: Windows 10 does not slow down the laptop;
  • Small, quiet operation under standard loads (office applications, browser).

Thumbs down:

  • The case is soiled: fingerprints have to be wiped off regularly;
  • Poor sound: single speaker, low volume;
  • Weak battery: 3-3.5 hours – maximum limit.

Summarizing the review of Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15, it can be noted that choosing this laptop will be a good solution for office work and study. There is nothing superfluous here, so the cost of the laptop is one of the most affordable among its price segment.
