Chrome Remote Desktop - how to download and use. Chrome Remote Desktop: How to ensure constant access to your PC Chrome Remote Desktop

Good day to everyone and all sorts of other useful joys.

It’s been a while since we talked about browsers and, even more so, about remote access + computer control (however, there are still some articles about this in general). Today it was decided to heroically write about both this and that.

We will talk about a simple (in its installation and use) extension for the Google Chrome browser, which, in fact, is called: " Chrome Remote Desktop". It allows, as is logical from the name and title of the article, to remotely control a computer, and do this both from another computer and, say, from a phone or tablet.

In general, fast, simple and convenient.
Let's get started.

Chrome Remote Desktop - installation, configuration and use

To take advantage of this joy of a programmer's thought, whatever one may say, you will need to have a Google account and use the appropriate browser of the same name.

Before the installation itself, you will be shown the rights that will be assigned to this extension, and therefore, in order to use it, you will have to provide these rights. I don’t see any big reasons for concern, since this extension was made directly by Google, and they care about security more than in some homemade companies.

After installation, you will see a notification like in the screenshot below. Along with it, an icon should appear on your desktop " Application launcher", where you can easily find the launch of Chrome Remote Desktop.

After launch, you will be asked for a login password to enter your account, or, if you are already logged in to the browser, a list of permissions will appear that will be granted for access within your account itself:

Similar to the permissions above, it would also be good to provide these so that everything works and works correctly. Inside the application extension there will be two items waiting for you " Remote support" and "My computers".

Or gain access by entering the code given to you by the person whose computer you plan to connect to:

This procedure, I think, will be familiar to everyone who has ever used the same Teamviewer.

After clicking on this button, the file chromeremotedesktophost.msi will be downloaded, which will need to be run to install it (it is extremely simple and does not require unnecessary gestures) and for the above-mentioned remote connection to work.

Next, you will be asked to select a PIN code to access this computer. I recommend not making simple codes like 123456, because this, like , is fraught with various kinds of problems. Please come up with something that is quite intelligible and lives exclusively in your head (as far as possible).

The final stage will be the process of allowing remote connections and a reminder that the computer can fall asleep during prolonged inactivity, and therefore, it is possible that the sleep mode function should be disabled (whether to do this or not is, in fact, everyone’s business).

You can manage the list of computers: give them names, change the PIN code and deny/allow remote access. In particular, you can see information about the last connection.

That's basically it for this one. All you have to do is connect and use. By the way, the screen size can be controlled by clicking on the menu button and the corresponding checkboxes, as shown above.

Let's move on to the afterword.

Afterword

Somehow a lot of things happened, although there are only two minutes to do and everything is quite simple. Well, okay, the main thing is that it seems detailed :)

In general, as they say, don’t be scared and try it - I think that many will like it and find it useful.

As always, if you have any questions, additions, etc., please feel free to comment on this post.

Before you start, you need to download and install the appropriate extension from the Google Store. The installer will ask the user to confirm extended access rights for it.

Once installation is complete, the extension can be launched from the Application Drawer.

How to get started with the utility

To launch the extension in the address bar of the browser, enter chrome :// apps .

After the first start, you will need to log in to your Google account and allow the program additional access.

How to share your PC

In "My Computers" mode

Click “Allow remote connections”, after which the application will ask you to enter a 6-digit PIN code, which will be used later as a password to the host computer.

And although Chrome Remote Desktop is inferior in its capabilities to specialized programs, it nevertheless copes with its tasks perfectly. It is very easy to use, there is support for the Russian language.

On this site you can find several popular tools for remotely controlling a computer running Windows or Mac OS (see), one of them that stands out among others is Chrome Remote Desktop, which also allows you to connect to remote computers from another computer (on different OS), laptop, phone (Android, iPhone) or tablet.

This instruction provides details on how to download Chrome Remote Desktop for PC and mobile devices and use this tool to control your computer or another user’s. And also how to delete the application if necessary.

Chrome Remote Desktop offers two operating modes:

  • Remote access- remote control of your computers from other devices with your Google account.
  • Remote support- a mode of operation in which you can receive support from another person or provide it yourself.

Connection in the first case consists of the following steps:

Connecting in the “Remote Support” mode is also not difficult:

Continuing to use remote access shouldn't be difficult: you control the remote computer using your keyboard and mouse as usual, but from a Google Chrome browser window or mobile app.

On the right is a menu with settings and the ability to enable full-screen mode, change the multi-monitor mode, transfer system keyboard shortcuts, and also enable the use of a shared clipboard (you cannot transfer files using it, only text and graphic data).

Overall, although somewhat limited compared to similar commercial products, Chrome Remote Desktop is a great option that works smoothly (assuming there are no network issues), is secure, and is easy to set up and use. Therefore, if you only need access to a remote desktop without additional functions of file transfer, screen recording, or secretive use, I can safely recommend it.

By the way, if you are a Windows 10 user, you might not know that the system has a built-in feature that allows you to quickly and without installing additional components connect to another person’s remote computer in remote support mode. And for full access you can use

Remote access technology allows you to connect to a computer using the Internet or local network for the purpose of administering or controlling the computer in on-line mode.

How does remote access technology work?

These programs were initially designed to provide convenience and optimize the working time of IT specialists who administer local networks, usually consisting of hundreds of computers, which are often located at a considerable distance from each other.

The use of remote administration programs can significantly reduce the time delays required to resolve issues that arise for users while working with a PC, thus reducing production downtime.

There are many software implementations of the idea of remote administration, which differ in the protocols used (VNC, RDP, Telnet, X11, ARD, Rlogin, RFB, ICA, as well as software developers’ own protocols) and management interfaces (console and graphical).

SSH, TLS, SSL and other protocols are used to encrypt transmitted traffic.

As a rule, programs for remote access consist of 2 applications with different functionality:

1. Server application – installed on computers that will need to be administered.

2. Client application – installed on the computer from which other PCs are controlled.

Soon, from the sphere of system administration, these programs gradually penetrated into the user sphere, adding to the set of necessary programs for the average user.

It is worth noting that, having occupied the user niche, programs for remote administration were somewhat modified.

So, instead of the required two client and server applications, there is now one application that plays the role of a client or server, depending on the internal settings of the program.

It also became possible to run programs on the Internet without additional settings.

Remote Desktop in Chrome is one of the implementations of remote access programs integrated into the web browser of the same name.
