Kallithea greece description. Beautiful views of calliphea. Where to eat well

Kallithea Beach, or Kalithea, is one of the many beaches of the Kassandra Peninsula, located on its eastern coast in the village of Kallithea in the Halkidiki region. It is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Kassandra, thanks to its natural conditions as well as the developed services sector.

This holiday destination is perfect for both young people, for whom there is a lot of entertainment in Kallithea, as well as for a relaxing family holiday. In addition to all its advantages, the Kallithea beach is also quite free, it is not too crowded here. Many people come here to enjoy the silence and relax in a pleasant calm atmosphere.

Rest conditions

Kallithea is a pebble and sandy beach. The stones here are not too large, and the sand is fine, soft and sparkling in the sun. The descent into the sea on the beach is quite gentle and also does not have very large stones. Moreover, the depth of the water in the bay is shallow, and in order for its level to be higher than your height, you will need to overcome a considerable distance. This is one of the reasons for the popularity of family vacations on the Kallithea beach.

The beach itself is very clean and free of debris. The water is emerald and transparent, so that through it you can see very beautiful shells and stones covered with algae at the bottom. One of the most important confirmations of its purity is the fact that it has been awarded the Blue Flag. It is an international award recognizing the most environmentally friendly and least polluted resorts.

Kallithea beach has a well-developed infrastructure for a comfortable stay. First of all, it is worth noting that it is not too crowded here, and therefore there are enough sun loungers and umbrellas that the beach is equipped with for all vacationers. There are also changing cabins and showers.

Kallithea beach weather

Due to the favorable location of the beach among the hills, it is always very calm and almost windless here. The waves in the bay are very small, so swimming here is safe even for children, and there are almost no storms. The comfortable Mediterranean climate with long and warm summers allows tourists to relax on the Kallithea beach from May to October. The air temperature at this time fluctuates in the region of 25-35 degrees Celsius, and very little precipitation falls in the summer. The water in the bay near the beach warms up rather quickly due to the shallow depth. Please note that the sand gets very hot in the sun, so you shouldn't walk on the beach without shoes.

Kallithea Beach is a great place to enjoy a quiet holiday and warm sun.

In winter, the weather on the beach is not conducive to relaxation, as it is a very rainy season. Moreover, the air temperature is not very high, on average 15 degrees. Pay attention to this fact and try to plan your vacation at Kallithea Beach during the warm season.

Things to do

Lovers of a traditional beach holiday will be pleased with the local conditions. Adults can sunbathe on the sun loungers, while children will be delighted with the white sand and clear warm water. Around the beach and on its territory there are small cafes, bars and taverns where you can both drink refreshing drinks and have a full lunch.

For those looking for a more active holiday, Kallithea Beach also offers plenty of water sports opportunities. There is a whole water sports center that offers water skiing or banana boat trips, paragliding and diving. Diving is especially suited to the local clear waters and a variety of flora and fauna, and you don't have to have experience to do it. You can also rent a canoe, catamaran or sailing yacht on the beach. In different parts of the beach there are sports grounds where you can play volleyball.

Be sure to just walk along the coast. You will find many unusual views and great photo spots. Previously, the beach of Kallithea was a place of pilgrimage, as the temples of Ammon Zeus and Dionysus were located here. The ruins of these ancient sanctuaries can be observed to this day.

You can also go a little further, beyond the beach area, and get to the entertainment center, where you can play bowling or ride horses and go karts. There are also shops in Kallithea where you can buy shoes, clothes, jewelry and, of course, souvenirs. Famous local clubs are located outside the village so as not to disturb the holidaymakers.

"? Why is Kallithea popular? What is the main archaeological site of the city? What does the sanctuary cave conceal? The beaches of Kallithea are a holiday paradise and the shops are a treat for shopaholics. How can the nightlife, clubs and taverns conquer the discerning traveler?

When we say Kallithea, we are, in essence, saying "rest." The same can be said about Kassandra - the most famous Chalcedian finger. It is here that numerous visitors and tourists flock.

Early Christian basilicas dating back to the early sixth century have been discovered in Silonas near Kallithea. The church was built on the site of an old building that is believed to have been the home of Christian martyrs.

Kallithea is located in a wild place, which is completely overgrown with wild trees that do not know cultivation. From the very edge of this finger, we can observe the next process of Cassandra - Sithonia. If you manage to climb to the outskirts of Kallithea in good and clear weather, then you can easily make out the famous Athos.

Of course, the wealth of Kallithea is not its geographical location and not forests growing in disorder, but archaeological values, which, however, are abundant throughout Greece. Here is an ancient temple, which was dedicated to Amon, which later became known as Zeus. Also, next to the temple, a cave was found, in which, according to the testimony of archaeologists, rituals dedicated to the god Dionysus were probably performed.

For the construction of the temple of Zeus Ammon, limestone was used, which was then covered with a layer of white marble, so over time, part of the temple had to be redone, replacing the limestone with marble. The Temple of Zeus had dimensions of 6 by 11 columns.

The Temple of Amun, most likely, was built around the 5th century BC, and was completed to its present appearance already in the 4th century. Initially, it most likely consisted of just an altar, and only then the temple itself was completed.

The very name Kallitheus is usually translated as "beautiful view", and this is true. Such species as in this part of Kassandria are difficult to find elsewhere. Kassandria is the center of the peninsula, and Kallithea, located very close, is its decoration. If Kassandria is an economic and financial center, then Kallithea is a rest for the eyes and hearts of the Greeks who live there. In summer it is impossible to find a single free hotel room there. And this situation with tourists occurs throughout the entire vacation period.

Viewers visiting the Nymph Cave can see a wall about a meter high standing on a flat platform above the entrance, which belonged to a Byzantine church dating from 1000 AD.

The central streets are full of shops for tourists - souvenirs, summer clothes, accessories for water sports, sweets and much more you can see in beautiful shop windows and on street counters. Nearby there are shady outdoor cafeterias, taverns, from which the soothing melodies of national Greek songs pour out. Kallithea beach is long sandy and well equipped. It should be noted that the cleanliness of the beaches in Greek resorts is monitored very carefully. At the end of April, they are necessarily cleaned and put in order for the upcoming season, and then kept in this state until the end of summer.

There is a fairly large selection of real estate for sale and rent in Kalithea - from small apartments to spacious cottages near the coast, both in the town itself and at the entrance to it, for those who prefer some privacy. Kallithea is an international resort, like all other resorts in Halkidiki, and throughout Greece. Here you will meet in equal proportions Englishmen, Frenchmen, Russians, Greeks and others. From Macedonia Airport to the town of Kallithea is less than an hour by car.

When the Romans conquered the territory of the peninsula, they preserved the sanctuary of Zeus, but built two more buildings next to the temple, located like an amphitheater. Of the Christian buildings, only one church, built in 1865, has survived to our time.

In the village itself, the beach is sandy and clean (awarded the "blue flag"), but has one significant drawback - the descent and ascent from it to the center of the village occurs along a rather steep long staircase. The beaches adjacent to the village are located on the territory of the hotels, one of the best - another holder of the "blue flag" beach Kriopygy 2, located 2.5 km south of the village and belongs to the Alexander The Great hotel. Well-groomed beautiful white sand beach surrounded by coniferous forests, palms and eucalyptus trees. The area is free of sea traffic and water activities.

Large assortment and low prices presented in the supermarket of the Masutis chain. There are also souvenir shops, a couple of fur coat shops. There are many inexpensive tasty taverns in the village, so choosing a place for lunch or dinner is not difficult. But breakfast or morning coffee will not work - cafes and restaurants open no earlier than 12.00. The Diaz Tavern on the outskirts of Kallithea features good food, large portions and spectacular views of the bay.

A sports competition is timed to coincide with the feast of St. Panteleimon, celebrated on July 27: on the last Sunday of July, a swim takes place in the Gulf of Toronea from Kalithea to Nikiti (24 km). In the evening on the Nikiti beach, folk festivities with national dances are held.

Kallithea has the status of the most popular place in Halkidiki. The entertainment complex consists of several discos, the largest of which is Ahoy, and is located two kilometers from the village. Therefore, in Kalithea itself there is peace and quiet at night, but in hotels located nearby, music is heard (especially in the rooms overlooking the clubs). The most active and eventful month of nightlife is August.

An alternative to dancing until the morning can be bowling, go-karting, an equestrian club, as well as all kinds of water activities on the beach. Lovers of history and archeology can explore the ruins of the temples of Ammon Zeus and Dionysus. At 4 km there is the town of Afitos with a rich history, which can be found in the local ethnographic museum, and an excellent beach. On July 27, local residents celebrate a holiday dedicated to the patron saint of the village - St. Panteleimon. Since 1971, in July, an international swimming marathon has been held across the Toroneos Gulf, starting in Kalithea and ending in Sithonia, in the village of Nikiti.

The resort is formed by three small villages - Kallithea, Psintos and Koskinou, and its name speaks for itself, because in Greek “Kallithea” means “Nice view”. Psinthos is a village that surprises tourists with houses painted in a blue, unconventional for Greece. The village of Koskinu is known as a place where all kinds of folk crafts flourish - its inhabitants are engaged in pottery, weaving, embroidery, and carpet making.

Koskinou has several taverns where you can relax and taste traditional Greek food.

Anthony Quinn Beach is considered the most beautiful in the resort

Another beach, well equipped, but much quieter and more secluded, is located nearby - in Ladiko Bay. If you go a little further, you will see the most beautiful beach of Kallithea, named after Anthony Quinn, an American actor who took part in the filming of the movie "The Cannons of the Isle of Navarone" in Rhodes. True, it is not very convenient for swimming, since the coast is rocky here, but this does not frighten the tourists at all.

It is not for nothing that they called it "Kallithea" - "beautiful view". Bright turquoise of the sea, a spectacular white-sandy beach and rich green forests - this is how this resort town on the Aegean Sea looks like. However, not only its natural beauty attracts numerous tourists every year - people also travel to Kallithea, located in a rather picturesque place, to have the opportunity to have a good time and to see archaeological values, which, however, are numerous throughout Greece.

How to get there on your own

It is not without reason that the Kassandra Peninsula is considered the most densely populated region of Halkidiki - there are 44 towns on the territory of 50 kilometers. Kallithea, located in the eastern part of the peninsula, approximately in the middle, is considered one of the busiest resorts here. It is 90 kilometers from Thessaloniki and Macedonia Airport, and you can get to Kallithea in a little more than an hour. If you wish, you can take a taxi, or you can go by bus, the routes of which run here regularly.

Infrastructure

Kalithea has a well-developed infrastructure - there are many inexpensive taverns where you can always have a delicious dinner, shops and souvenir shops work, there is a chain supermarket "Masutis", and there are even a couple of fur coat shops. There are also plenty of hotels here - however, most of them are located outside the village.

Beach

The beach of Kallithea is comfortable, pretty and cozy - it is located in the Gulf of Torono, so the sea here is almost always calm, calm, transparent, at least there are almost no strong waves. Very often from here you can see not only the neighboring peninsula, Sithonia, - if in clear weather you climb to the towering outskirts of the town, you can see the more distant Athos. Clean sandy beach, sea without large stones; the beach is perfectly equipped for a comfortable pastime - sun loungers, umbrellas, cafes and bars. It is amazingly beautiful here - the sandy coast is beautifully shaded by the greenery of the palms, eucalyptus and coniferous trees stretching right behind it. However, there is one "but" - the Kallithea beach is also surrounded by small mountains, so you have to go down to it by a rather steep staircase.

What to see?

Kallithea is a relatively small town, one might even say a village. It was founded not so long ago as most Greek cities - at the beginning of the twentieth century (it was founded by Russian monks from the monastery of St. Panteleimon), and therefore it has neither a rich history nor solid historical monuments. Nevertheless, there are still several attractions here - these are the excavations of the ancient temple of Zeus-Amun (which was discovered during the construction of another hotel in 1969 and, as scientists assume, was built in the 5th century BC), the temple of Dionysius, and also the so-called cave of the Nymphs. And in memory of the time when Christianity came to Greece, there is a small church erected not far from the destroyed churches in 1865.

Young people like to hang out here - after all, in the vicinity of Kallithea, there are many bars and nightclubs that will not get bored until dawn. The largest disco is Ahoy, it is located two kilometers from the resort of Kallithea. The most active "club" month is August, at the height of the tourist season, Greek pop stars often come here with concerts. However, due to the fact that all the clubs are located outside the city, in Kalithea itself it is quite quiet, so it is quite suitable for people who prefer a quiet rest - for example, you can rent a hotel in the center of the town. An equestrian club, go-kart or bowling alley may well be a great (and less turbulent) alternative to dancing.

Once upon a time, at this very place, the ancient inhabitants of the peninsula worshiped Zeus and Dionysus, for a little over a hundred years monks lived here, but today the town of Kallithea is one of the most popular resorts of the Halkidiki peninsula. He warmly welcomes visiting guests, offering them everything he can give - excellent beaches, hotels for every budget, delicious Greek cuisine, entertainment to their liking, and even archaeological sites - in a word, everything that is for many tourists synonymous with the word "rest".

All about Kalithea: hotels, sea activities, beach holidays and excursions. Author's photos and videos, reviews of tourists. Location of Kalithea on the map.

The most famous resort area of Halkidiki is the Kassandra peninsula. It is on it that the village of Kallithea is located, which for many tourists has become the embodiment of their best vacation in Greece. It is not in vain that this resort is considered to be the most partying, youthful and fun; in it and its surroundings, tourists will find a chic and unforgettable experience.

Nature and beaches of Kallithea

The name of the village is translated from Greek as "beautiful view", which fully corresponds to reality. From anywhere in Kallithea, truly gorgeous panoramas open up to the local natural beauty.

When you get to Kallithea Beach, which, by the way, was awarded the Blue Flag for its unique purity and abundance of water activities for all ages, you will know that you are in heaven. Soft sand, the absence of waves on the sea, the coast hidden behind palm trees, conifers and eucalyptus trees - this is the kind of vacation that any holiday-maker who visits hospitable Greece strives for.

Entertainment at the resort

All the hangouts in Kalithea, which are so loved by the active and happy youth of Europe, are collected in one place. They are located one or two kilometers from the village, so “calm” vacationers who come here for their portion of relaxation on the beach can sleep peacefully at night or enjoy the amazing silence of this fertile place.

For as many hangouts and vibrant parties as possible, head to Kallithea by the end of summer. It is here that August is the most eventful and active month for fans of "buzzing well".

Kallithea is famous not only for its dances, but also for its numerous sports entertainments. Tourists are invited to play bowling in one of the entertainment centers on the coast, ride horses, becoming for some time a member of the local equestrian club. And the guys, undoubtedly, will not refuse to feel like a pilot of a fast-paced car racing, sitting behind the wheel of a compact and fast karting.

Historical landmarks of Kallithea

Formally, the village was built in the 1920s by the Hellenes who were forced to leave their homes in Asia Minor. But even before that, life was in full swing in these places. Local lands long time belonged to Orthodox monks who built the monastery of St. Panteleimon on the territory of modern Kalithea. It is clear that this region was not uninhabited before.

In 1969, an ancient temple in honor of Ammon Zeus was discovered in Kallithea. For tourists, it is the main historical attraction of the village, located right on the sea coast. In the course of further excavations, archaeologists have found another sanctuary, which was erected in honor of Dionysus. It is located in a picturesque cave dating back to the second century BC. It is believed that its creators are the ancient Euboeans, in whose culture the cult of Dionysus and sea deities was especially revered.

For lovers of antiquity, it makes sense to visit Afytos, a town four kilometers from Kallithea. It houses an excellent ethnographic museum with a variety of exhibits telling about the past of Halkidiki and the peoples who have inhabited it for thousands of years. And a simple walk along Afytos will bring you unforgettable satisfaction.

Shopping and cafes in Kalithea

Jewelry made in local style, shoes and clothes for every taste and a variety of souvenirs - this is not a complete list of goods that are always of interest to guests of Kallithea. If your life without exciting shopping is impossible even during a resort vacation, the village will fully satisfy your shopping needs.

Most cafes and taverns in Kalithea open after 11 or even 12 hours. And it's not that the locals are lazy. Quite the contrary - they are well versed in the realities of resort life. Until midday, most travelers eat in their hotels and sunbathe. And only then they get out to the streets of Kallithea, where establishments for every taste are cordially open for them.
