Performance

Nokia Lumia 920 runs on the basis of SOC Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960, each of the two CPU cores of which has a frequency of 1.5 GHz. For comparison, Lumia 900 was a single-core CPU with a frequency of 1.4 GHz.

Obviously, the results of both Lumia on Windows Phone 7.5 do not reflect the actual position of things - they are implausible bad. In turn, the result of Lumia 920 looks worthy for the top smartphone for the second half of 2012 and is almost identical to the result of Apple iPhone 5. So we will definitely return to this question, and now we will try to formulate the most important considerations regarding Windows Phone 8, as well as our first impressions.

The first thing that rushes into the eyes when you turn on the smartphone is, naturally, the tiles of changing size. As we remember, in Windows Phone 7 tiles were fixed size. Now, the user can customize their size, choosing one of three options: either a rectangle (horizontally along the entire desktop), or a standard square, in width corresponding to half of the desktop, or a small square in a quarter large. To change the size of the tile to the desired one, it is enough to make a long press on it - and the arrow will appear, with which one of three size variants is selected.

It is assumed that the new interface with the changeable tiles size will be available on Windows Phone 7.8. But, I repeat until Nokia smartphones on Windows Phone 7.5 received the appropriate update.

Another feature: now on the main screen is not in the upper right corner of the arrow, which allows you to go to the full application menu. To do this, it is enough just to brush the screen left - and we will see full list Applications.

Of course, it would be strange to represent it as a huge achievement (given that in Android and other mobile OS, with the exception of iOS, such an opportunity is initially). Rather, this is the elimination of the lack of Windows Phone 7. But it's good that at least now did it.

At the same time, Microsoft did not take care that for Mac computer owners, the transition to Windows Phone 8 passed painlessly: IMAC running OS X 10.8 with all current updates, the connected device did not recognize, and even Windows Phone 7 Connector did not help.

And the most important thing is: all applications for Windows Phone 7.x on Windows Phone 8 should work - but there will be no backward compatibility. It means it is quite possible that after some time the developers will write applications only for Windows Phone 8 (to fully use the capabilities of the new interface and API, but not to maintain two development branches at the same time), and the application base for Windows Phone 7.x It will stop updated. At the moment there are not so many applications in the MarketPlace, and they are not so good as I would like. Especially disappointing games. If iOS and Android have long become playing platforms, and for the same iPhone there is a mass of beautiful 3D games, then the Windows Phone choice is still very modest. In a few minutes of the search, we found only Asphalt 5 (whereas on iOS and Android are available asphalt 7) and Assassin's Creed, looking not very impressive.

At the same time, it is precisely from the part of the Games of Windows Phone 8, it seems very rainbow. After the innovative Nokia 808 PureView camera, which has installed new camera quality standards in mobile devices, browsers and users set the same question: When will such a camera be in the top device on Windows Phone? The company wants "PureView technology" not perceived as a synonym for individual numbers or characteristics. Due to what is implemented by the second generation PureView (in Lumia 920)? Firstly, a reverse illumination matrix (BSI) is used, which, as we know on the reviews of modern digital cameras, provides better picture quality (less noise) when installing an elevated level sensitivity of the matrix.
