How to turn off caps lock on a laptop. Caps Lock what is it on the keyboard and where is it? Using the Caps Lock Key

Is Caps Lock getting in the way because you accidentally press it sometimes? If you do not use this key, you can turn it off completely. See how to disable the Caps Lock key.

Each of us has ever accidentally pressed Caps Lock at the most inopportune moment. Active Caps Lock enables caps input mode, which causes problems, for example, when entering a password. It happens that we enter the wrong password just because we have this key enabled on our laptop or computer.

Caps Lock is not one of the keys that we often use in Windows 7, 8.1 and 10. In principle, if you do not use programs or applications that require this key, you can disable it. For many users, this is an extra key that only causes problems. If you are one of them, then you can completely disable it using the Registry Editor in Windows.

How to disable key function via Registry Editor

Let's move on to how to disable Caps Lock. To do this, we use the method of removing the function that it performs when pressed. Thanks to this, when you click on it, nothing will happen. The corresponding parameter is in the next section:

At this point, you need to create a binary parameter Scancode Map, which will allow you to assign a different function to the selected key. This procedure can be done using the Registry Editor in Windows 10, but there is a much easier way.

Open system Notepad and paste the following snippet into it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

"Scancode Map" = hex: 00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,3a, 00,00,00,00,00

You need to write the file in REG format. To do this, open "File" - "Save As". Select the type "All files" and then save it, for example, as "off key.reg"

A * .reg file will be created with a ready-made registry modification that disables the key function. Now it is enough to make changes, for this double click on "off key.reg" to turn it off.

A window will appear asking if you really want to make changes to system registry... Confirm this procedure, and when done, restart your computer. Now Caps Lock Windows will be disabled and will not switch capitalization when accidentally pressed.

Restoring the original Caps Lock function

If you suddenly need this key in the future, you can easily restore its original function and delete the above changes.
To do this, press the combination on the keyboard Windows keys+ R and in the window that opens, enter the following command:

In the Editor window that opens, go to the next section:

To quickly go to the above path, you can copy it and then paste it in the address bar of the Registry Editor. Then open the Keyboard Layout section. On the right side of the window, the entries for this section are displayed. Find your modification of Scancode Map here. Just right-click on the Scancode Map option and select Uninstall.

After deleting this entry, restart your computer. The button should work according to its original function.

Hello, friends! Today we will talk about how to disable unnecessary Windows functions 7.

Agree, there are many different, sometimes annoying features in Windows, such as sticky keys, the CAPS LOCK key, etc., that I would like to eliminate. Let's take a look at some of them, and the methods for their "deactivation" =) There are, of course, various tuning programs, such as TweekUI, Tune Up and the like, but why use something third-party when there are standard Windows tools? Let's go in order

How do I disable the Caps Lock key?

How often do you use this key for its intended purpose? Is it possible to "poke" on the forums, which ultimately only annoys everyone, and sometimes you can get a ban for frequent inappropriate use of the "caps". And how often, when entering a password, this key is magically pressed, and the password is naturally entered incorrectly? Some services, of course, warn that Caps Lock is pressed, but not all.

In general, I personally do not need this key at all. So why not turn it off altogether? To do this, we need to create a simple text file and enter the following values into it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 "Scancode Map" = hex: 00.00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,2a, 00,3a, 00,00,00,00, 00

Then we save the file, give it some name, for example, disable_capslock. And change the file extension: instead of .txt, write .reg. The file is ready. Now we click on it twice, and in the pop-up windows we agree with everything. Do not pay in this particular case attention to various system warnings, this file will not bring harm, it is guaranteed.

Just making any changes to the registry (namely, we are making them to it now), sometimes is fraught with the fall of Windows, if you do not know what and where to make.

After that, we restart the computer. And voila! The annoying Caps Lock key is no longer functional and does not bother us! If for some reason you need to get everything back, create a new text file, call it somehow and enter the following values:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 "Scancode Map" = -

As with the first file, change the extension to reg. Then run it, also agree with everything, and restart your computer. The key functionality will be restored. In general, instead of disabling Caps Lock, you can assign it a different function, but I don't see much point in this.

If you don't want to mess with creating reg-files, you can download the archive with the ready-made files:

  • disable_capslock.reg (disable Caps Lock)
  • restore_scancode_mappings.reg (reset changes).

Modern browsers can "swear" at this archive, because it does contain reg files. But I guarantee there is nothing wrong with these files.

How do I turn off confirmation of deletion?

If, when deleting a file, you are annoyed by the constantly popping up question:

You can turn off this confirmation dialog. This is done as easy as shelling pears. Open the properties of the "Trash", and uncheck the "Request confirmation for deletion"

Please note that it is better not to tick the box "Destroy files immediately after deleting without placing them in the trash". You never know, you suddenly want to restore remote file from the basket. But for permanent deletion, simply use the key combination SHIFT and DEL, instead of the standard DEL.

How do I turn off Sticky Keys?

Sticky Keys are activated by pressing SHIFT five times, and this feature is designed for people with disabilities. But for most people this is completely unnecessary. And even more - it is very annoying if you accidentally press it five times (the child will press, for example, or the cat will settle down on the keyboard). This is especially annoying for gamers when such a sign can pop up during the game:

So, to disable this function, just click on the link in the dialog box that appears: "Go to the center special features to disable the keyboard shortcut. "And uncheck the box next to Enable Sticky Keys When SHIFT Keys Are Pressed Five Times"

You can do even more tricky, and assign a completely different function to a five-time press, for example, a call command line(cmd.exe) as administrator. But more about that some other time.

Removing unnecessary items from the context menu

When installing, many programs "push themselves" not only on the desktop, into the panel quick launch, in the start menu, but also in context menu(this is a list of commands and functions that we see when we right-click (RMB) on any file). And sometimes the context menu is really cumbersome and with unnecessary items. Especially for those who regularly install and uninstall everything. So, in order to "clean" it and remove all unnecessary, you can use such a wonderful utility as. It is very functional and has long established itself only on the positive side. Plus, it's free (there is also a PRO version). You can download it from the official website

I will publish a full review of this program later, in the "Soft" section. And now we are interested in its ability to adjust the autoload of the context menu. To do this, go to the program in the "Service" - "Startup" section, and go to the " Context menu", where you can easily turn off all unnecessary.

This, perhaps, is all. But only for today! Stay tuned for new articles and useful things. And in order not to miss anything "tasty" - subscribe to updates.

If, when you press Caps Lock, the game is minimized or the game switches to windowed mode, then the caps indicator on the screen is to blame. Which appears in the lower right corner of the screen each time you press Caps Lock or Num Lock.

Besides Caps lock and Num lock in the lower right corner of the screen above the clock a window pops up and on / off Scroll Lock.

A pop-up notification about the inclusion of Caps / Num Lock interferes not only with games, but also with many programs running in full screen mode and requiring pressing these keys.

For example, in GTA 5, the Caps Lock key includes a special ability. And when you press it, the game switches to windowed mode, which is simply unacceptable! You can, of course, change the assignment of the keys, but in the same GTA V, almost all the keys are occupied, and besides, this will not solve the problem globally.

To get rid of this notification, you need to disable the program that displays it. You can do this at startup if you know what it is called.

It often happens that its name is unknown or there is no such program in startup. Especially often it happens in laptops.

As it turned out, Caps Lock notification is issued by BTTray.exe process which can only be disabled in the registry.

How to enter the registry:

Start> Run> enter "regedit" and go to the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> SOFTWARE> Widcomm> BTConfig> General> KeyIndication> change the value of "KeyIndication" instead of "1" put "0". Click OK and close the registry editor.

Restart your computer and rejoice in the absence of this nasty notification!

P.S. Thanks to nude users, another solution to this problem has been found:

In start-up we write msconfig, there we choose, we find the program BTTray and remove it from startup. This software starts after installation wireless headphone and similar devices on bluetooth.

Hello everyone The keyboard is a device with which we can enter text on a PC. It sounds like it's 1990 and no one knows what a keyboard is .. So the keyboard has all sorts of buttons, if it's normal, then there are few specific buttons. But there are keyboard for gamers, there can be a lot of additional buttons there ..

But this is what a caps lock is and why on the Internet they write like don't write caps lock or turn off the caps lock. What does this even mean? Caps lock is just a button that activates the input of capital letters. If you press the caps lock again, then the input of capital letters will be disabled.

Usually the button is labeled Caps Lock and is located on the left side of the keyboard here:

Therefore, when you see what people say do not write with a cap lock, I think now you understand what they mean

Whatever the keyboard is, the caps lock will always be in one place. For example, a scary gaming keyboard:

And she has a caps lock in the same place, if you look closely:

Although Klava is really freaky

By the way, the caps lock button is the same as a cloud of years standing on typewriters. She there, as well as in computers, changed the case of the entered text. I found this joke on the net:

When a user types a text with the caps lock enabled, it is perceived on the Internet as a cry. In such cases, they say not capsi

Damn it, I completely forgot to write about the main thing, that's how I could only forget! When the caps lock is on, the Caps Lock light on your keyboard will be on:
