Covers for tablets with your own hands. We make original covers for the tablet with our own hands. Other possible options

Recent times portable devices such as tablets and smartphones are becoming increasingly popular with people of all ages. They are able to make our life much easier and combine the functions of several devices. Both tablets and smartphones can replace a simple camera, player, as well as a more bulky laptop.

And that's not to mention the phone's default features. A common feature of this technique is the presence of a large touch screen... This screen is the most sensitive place to damage: it can be easily scratched, which will affect appearance and possibly the ability of the screen to respond to touch. Protect your device with a sensitive display with a case. The market abounds with covers made of any materials and made in any color scheme. But industrial-made covers are far from affordable for everyone, and sometimes it is difficult to choose protection for a tablet of a certain model. If you love handicrafts and appreciate truly unique things, but do not know how to start creating your own case, this article is for you. Here it will be described step by step how to sew a cover for portable device... With a certain amount of diligence and accuracy, you will get a little thing at the exit, the quality of which will not be inferior to store counterparts, while you do not have to put up with the possible drawbacks of an industrial cover: at home you can think over everything to the smallest detail.

Making a leather case for a tablet

This variant of the cover looks like a book: the tablet itself is fixed to one part of the "cover" with special fasteners, the other part serves to protect the sensitive display from unnecessary mechanical influences. Making a book cover is not at all difficult, and the time that will have to be spent will not be in vain. Use your imagination and you have an accessory that no one else has. Now let's move on to the technical side of the issue.

Necessary materials:

  1. Fragments of felt of your favorite color, cut according to the dimensions of the device, taking into account allowances - two pieces. Felt is usually used, but if for some reason you do not like felt, you can use another material: for example, a leather substitute or natural leather.
  2. Cardboard parts that are also sized to match tablet computer, - two pieces.
  3. A multipurpose adhesive that can glue fabric and cardboard together.
  4. Contact tape (Velcro tape).
  5. An elastic band for fixing - two pieces.

Operating procedure:

- We lay out the felt parts on the table and use glue to attach cardboard elements to them. Pay attention to the allowances. Areas not covered with cardboard will be used for opening and closing the cover. In fact, we are making a cover for a tablet.

Fragments of cardboard are glued to felt or leather parts

- The free edges are folded inward and also fixed to the cardboard parts.

- Cut out two strips from the material being used, each 15 cm long and 1 cm wide. These parts are cut lengthwise and glued at the corners of one part of the cover, as seen in the photo:

Base material strips to secure the device in the case

At this stage, it is very important to fit in and put the computer in a case. If the size of the case matches the dimensions of the tablet, two rubber bands are glued in the case to better hold the device in the way you think is convenient.

- We cover the cardboard parts with a layer of felt or leather of the same color or combined with the main one. Cut out the parts and glue them onto cardboard.

- All the resulting structure is sewn on a sewing machine for reliability.

- To prevent the cover from opening when it is not required, you can sew a lock with a contact tape to it. To do this, on the part into which the tablet is inserted, a piece of the main material (of arbitrary shape and width) is sewn with one part of the Velcro tape. The second part of the contact tape is fixed on the opposite part of the cover.

Velcro tape is used as a lock

So, our cover is ready! If you wish, you can decorate it with an original author's drawing made with special paints, or felt applique, or glued rhinestones, or embroidery.

Other possible options

Each of the options described above can be modified at your discretion. The tablet will be protected even more reliably if you do not immediately glue the fabric onto the cardboard, but first lay a layer of thin foam rubber.

In addition to covers-books, you can make covers-handbags like clutches. They should also be sized to fit the size of the device. You can sew a zipper into such a cover. Can be made from fabric to carry the tablet in your hand or even on your shoulder.

Experiment with fabrics! A cover made of matching fabrics will look original: for example, use a plain material outside, and inside with a pattern. Nice combination of denim and leather.

Play with the clasp. In addition to the described option with a contact tape, there are others. You can find a beautiful large button. In the workshop, you can ask to attach a button to the case. It is convenient to use small magnets sewn under the material layer.

Handicraft stores offer a wide variety of fabrics, fittings and accessories to decorate your handicrafts. There are special paints that can be used to paint on fabric.

Some creative people even make money by creating unique designer cases and handbags for phones and tablets.

A conscientiously made little thing will never be left without the attention of others, and your soul will be warmed by the fact that you yourself have created such beauty.

Video instructions for making covers for tablets

Bookcase made of cardboard and felt. It takes a minimum of materials, effort and time, a couple of sheets of cardboard, some felt, three elastic bands, and two buttons. And also glue, scissors, a stationery knife. Prepare all the necessary materials, and carefully watch the video instructions. By the way, do not pay attention to the video ipad - the instruction is applicable for all tablets.

And here is another video instruction on how to make a cover in the form of a book. The cover is similar to the previous one, but it looks more solid, and more reliable to use. It also shows you how to use this cover as a tablet stand. Unfortunately, the video is in English, but everything is clear there.

The female version of the tablet case. Especially lovers of all sorts of ruffles-tweezers will like it.

Tablet case is an essential accessory for your electronic assistant! Our model is fastened with Velcro and additionally reinforced with plastic inserts. This case is suitable not only for a tablet, but also for e-book.

Tablet case: choose material

How to sew a tablet case with your own hands? Our cover is made of thick genuine leather lined with bright cotton. Choose thick, abrasion-resistant materials such as denim, corduroy, faux leather or suede. In order for a case for a tablet or a book to hold its shape well and can be used as a stand, it must be strengthened.

We used thin plastic from a folder for papers, the choice of which in stationery stores is huge. The plastic should be quite dense, about 0.7-0.8 mm thick. It can be cut with scissors and stitched with a machine needle (number 80-90). You can also use thick and stiff cardboard.

In order to connect the layers of fabric and plastic, you need an adhesive material. It can be an adhesive spider web, double-sided tape or transparent glue (fabric or leather should be indicated in the annotation). You can use either one of these materials or all three. It is convenient to glue large fragments with an adhesive spider web, bend the edges with tape and glue over small parts, and fix the threads with glue.

You will also need an elastic band and Velcro for fastening.

As an example, we sewed an e-book case, so it has a vertical format. The tablet is more often used in a horizontal position, so the cover for it should open, and also be able to be installed on the table, along the long side. Pay special attention to the connectors and buttons located on the sides on some models - these places should be left open.

So, let's sew a case for a tablet or e-book with our own hands!

Cut open

Detail B- corresponds to the size of a tablet or a book, maybe 3-5 mm more

Detail A- the same width as part B. The length is twice the length of part A plus the thickness of the tablet or book and plus 1 cm.

Detail C- the same width as part B. The length is slightly more than 1/3 of the length of part B.

Detail F- fasteners. May be triangular if the device has a wide bezel. Each side of the part must be at least 1/3 of the length of the side of part B to which it will be attached.

Detail H- fastener of any shape. The length of the part should be 5-7 cm longer than the thickness of the tablet in order to close freely.

Try on one pair of bindings by inserting a tablet or book. Pin the elastic to the fabric.

Fold and glue the edges of the leather part A. Sew on the other side of the Velcro strap on one side.

Fold the piece with the pinned pair of fasteners and the leather piece with the fastener sewn on with the wrong sides inward. Sew along the short side, curling slightly around the corners.

Stitch on the bindings on the second side, starting at about 1/3 of the total length details V.

Fold the leather part A and the fabric part A with glued plastic on the inside with the wrong sides. Insert the fastener detail from the free edge as shown in the photo and sew along the edge until it intersects with the stitch near the fasteners.

Tuck and glue the edges along the 3 m sides of the leather on the plastic-reinforced part C.

Tuck the free short edge of the fabric into the cover. Sew the place where all three parts join by hand. Sew horizontally near the attachment point just below the end of the plastic in part C.

You will need

  • - thick cardboard;
  • - ruler;
  • - scissors;
  • - pins;
  • - sewing machine;
  • - the cloth;
  • - elastic tape;
  • - threads to match the fabric.

Instructions

Tablets differ from each other not only in models, but also in dimensions. Therefore, before proceeding with the manufacture of the cover, it is necessary to measure the dimensions of the device using a ruler, namely: width, height and length. According to the data obtained, 5 parts should be cut out of cardboard. In the event that no cardboard was found, you can use book covers or chipboard. The details of the sample correspond to the following parameters: 20x16.5 cm, 20x1 cm, 20x7.5 cm, 20x1 cm and 20x15 cm.

From the selected material, you need to cut 3 rectangular elements. One of them is equal to the size of three pieces of cardboard, the other is equal to the other two, and the last is the size of all together. When cutting out rectangles, it is necessary to take into account that an additional couple of centimeters will be required for the seams.

Cut 4 equal pieces from the elastic tape and sew each of them at the corners of the smallest rectangle made of fabric. Thus, you will get fasteners that will securely fix the tablet in your own case.

Next, the resulting part must be connected to the middle rectangle made of fabric. The elements must be attached to each other in such a way that the front sides are inside, and sew them on the far left.

On top of the formed part, put the largest rectangle with the front side inward. Then, using pins, fasten the sides. Cut a piece of the required size from the elastic tape and insert it between the fixed elements so that it is at the level of the corners. Sew the future tablet case on three sides on a sewing machine.

After the operations done, it is necessary to turn the part out to the front side. Place the corresponding cardboard elements in the cover in order. Each of the rectangles must be fixed with a machine stitch.

Who can argue with the fact that a gift made with your own hands is more pleasant, sweeter and much more expensive than any most valuable gift purchased in a store? Take the risk? Well, okay! At least in our family, everyone is very fond of giving and receiving homemade gifts.

So in the light of the upcoming men's holiday, February 23, I will venture to throw all creative mothers and grandmothers the idea of a homemade gift for a man - a leather case for a tablet. Moreover, we have already given our dear men a leather case-keychain for keys and a case for a mobile phone made by ourselves. Why not swing at the tablet case ?!

How to sew a leather case for a tablet with your own hands

Tools and materials for making a tablet case:

  • leather;
  • thick cardboard;
  • foamed polyethylene 1 mm thick;
  • non-slip dense fabric (I have "wet" silk);
  • transparent glue "Moment Crystal";
  • needle;
  • scissors;
  • transparent packaging plastic;
  • ruler;
  • simple pencil;
  • ball pen;
  • a bar of soap or crayon;
  • awl;
  • reinforced sewing thread;
  • shoe thread;
  • lurex thread;
  • elastic band 1 cm wide - 50 cm;
  • elastic band 2cm wide - 25 cm.

1. I take measurements of the tablet.

Based on the measurements, I make a frame for a tablet case. To do this, I cut out 2 identical parts from thick cardboard, exceeding the dimensions of the tablet by 3 mm on each side. At the same time, I round off the two outer corners of the part, like the rounded corners of the tablet itself.

2. So that the tablet case can be transformed into a convenient stand, one of the cardboard parts is conventionally divided into two identical parts.

I leave the half with rounded corners unchanged, and separate a strip of 0.5 cm from the second half, which I then cut off, so that as a result I get 2 unequal parts: with rounded corners - wider, even - narrower.

3. I glue all three cardboard parts onto transparent packaging plastic using Moment Crystal transparent glue.

Reinforcing the cardboard parts with plastic helps to make the frame of the tablet case more rigid and resistant to deformation.

4. After the glue dries, I cut off the excess plastic along the contour of the cardboard parts.

5. I lay out the ironed fabric on the work table with the wrong side up.

I alternately glue the prepared parts of the cover frame to it with the plastic side up in the following order:

but). I glue the largest part so that its rounded corners are on the left side.

b). In order to evenly stick the remaining parts of the frame relative to the first, using a ruler and a piece of soap, I mark on the fabric: I draw two parallel horizontal lines upper and lower border of the cover.

in). Having retreated 2 cm from the first glued part of the cover frame, I draw a vertical line.

I glue a narrow part of the frame without rounded corners, aligning its left edge with the drawn vertical line.

G). I step back from the second glued part 0.5 cm and again perform vertical marking with a remnant. I glue the third part of the cover frame, placing it with rounded corners to the right (outward) and aligning its left edge with the vertical marking.

6. I place the workpiece under the press until the glue is completely dry.

Perhaps this is not the best use for colorful gift editions, but the press turns out to be just wonderful J

7. I cut off the excess fabric, stepping back 1 cm on each side from the edge of the cardboard frame parts.

8. Wrap the edges of the fabric on the wrong side of the frame and glue them.

9. I carefully cut off the excess fabric on the rounded corners of the parts.

10. I place the resulting detail of the inner part of the tablet case on a piece of leather and trace around the contour with a simple pencil.

11. I cut out the leather part of the outer part of the cover according to the made markings.

12. As a small decoration, I decided to make a simple contour embroidery with silver lurex thread on the front side of the cover. To do this, I prepare a simple sketch of the contour drawing and transfer it to the skin of the outer part of the tablet case using an awl.

Details on how to transfer a pattern for embroidery to leather, as well as the very technique of embroidery on leather, is described in the step-by-step master class "Horse Embroidery on Leather".

13. Along the contour embossed with an awl, I embroider a drawing with a seam "back to the needle" with lurex thread.

14. To fix the tablet case in the stand position, it is necessary to complete the product with a clip with a “tongue”. You can use a piece of rough, thick leather to make it. I didn't find anything like that, so I simply decided to strengthen the piece of leather for the clip with the same transparent packaging plastic. So,

I cut out a 7.5x4 cm rectangle out of leather.

15. With sharp nail scissors I cut a hole with a "tongue" into the clip details. The cut width is about 0.5 cm.

16. I glue the plastic to the seamy side of the clip and cut off its excess along the contour of the leather part.

17. With an awl I pierce a series of holes along the contour of the clip part, 2 mm back from the edge.

18. I sew the contours of the cutout of the part with a thick shoe thread along the markings.

19. On the back side of the folded in the form of a book, I make markings for attaching the clip. The clip should be centered between the top and bottom edge of the cover and 2.5 cm from the side of the cover.

20. I apply a strip of glue along the contour of the seamy side of the clip.

21. I glue the clip piece to a pre-marked place. With an awl I pierce holes in the skin of the outer part of the cover in those places where the holes in the clip have already been made.

22. Sew the clip to the outer part of the tablet case with shoe thread.

This completes the work on the front side of the case. But the "interior decoration" still needs to be worked on.

23. To reliably protect my beloved gadget from all kinds of "shocks", I decided to duplicate the frame of the tablet case with thin foamed polyethylene.

I cut out three parts from expanded polyethylene, identical to the cardboard parts of the cover frame. Moreover, each polyethylene part is 0.5 cm less on all sides than its cardboard prototype.

24. I glue the parts made of expanded polyethylene to the seamy side of the cover frame.

25. The role of the clamps that securely hold the tablet in the case will be played by the elastic bands attached to the corners of one of the halves of the case. I prepare four identical pieces of elastic with a width of 1 cm.The length of each piece of elastic is 8 cm.

In the center of each piece of elastic, I attach a small piece of leather bent in half. This will prevent the tablet from sliding inside the case.

26. Sew the leather to the elastic.

27. I glue two prepared rubber bands to the outer corners of the widest part of the cover frame.

28. I attach the remaining two elastic bands to the inner corners of the wide part of the frame, making small cuts in the fabric in the place shown in the photo by the arrow.

29. A wide elastic band, attached at a distance of 1 cm from the side of the wide part of the frame, will further act as a fastener for the tablet case.

30. I glue the outer part of the leather cover to the frame part prepared in this way.

31. Having made a row of holes with an awl along the contour of the tablet cover at a distance of 4 mm from the edge, I sew both parts with strong reinforced sewing thread. I also make seams dividing the three parts of the cover frame.

This is how the tablet case looks from the inside:

Just in case, after my vague explanations, you have a question about the location of the wide elastic band-fastener, in the photo it is on the right (wrapped on the front side).

And this is the front side of the cover:

Here you can clearly see how the "tongue" of the clip should be oriented so that the cover can be folded into the stand.

Well, and, a case for a tablet, transformed into a stand (side view):

And also the view of the cover folded into the stand, from the back:

Despite my sometimes rather unintelligible explanations, the process of making a leather case for a tablet with your own hands is not at all complicated and does not take much time.

A tablet is a thing that is used quite often in Everyday life... And so that on long time keep its presentable look, it is worth taking care of the case. At the same time, it is not necessary to buy an accessory, you can do it yourself.

DIY materials for making a cover

Before starting work, you need to prepare what you need. In order to make a cover you will need:

  • fabric or leatherette, it is better to immediately measure it according to the size of the tablet;
  • 2 cartons, they should also be cut out in the shape of a tablet;
  • button and Velcro;
  • elastic, it is better to choose the color of the future cover;
  • instant glue.

Directly for working with the above materials, it will come in handy:

  • stationery knife and scissors;
  • a pencil or pen, it's easier to make marks on the workpieces where to cut;
  • thread and needle.

We sew a case for a tablet with our own hands

Accessory making process:

  • Before starting work, make sure that you have fabric or leather scraps ready to fit the tablet shape, and 2 cartons have been cut out.
  • Now, on each cardboard (you can use thick paper), glue the prepared fabric. Measure short distance between the received parts, they should look like a book.

  • Then fold over the protruding edges of the fabric and fold them inward. Glue the ends to the cardboard.
  • Take a few strips of fabric and glue them to the corners of your case. It is better to make strips 10-15 cm long and no more than 1 cm wide.

  • Take an elastic band and use glue to attach it to the case, they will fix the tablet. At this stage, take the device and try on the case, try to fasten it, check if it falls out.
  • Cut out a small piece of fabric and glue it where the cardboard is visible.

  • It remains only to stitch the resulting cover along the contour so that it does not disperse during use.
  • The final touch is the clasp for the accessory. Cut a small piece of fabric and glue it to one side of the cover, and attach the Velcro to the other side.

Choose fabrics that won't stain quickly.

Retro cover

If you want to make an accessory with my own hands not because there is not enough money to buy in the store, but because you want to excel, then this option is right for you! To work you will need:

  • a book that is slightly larger than your device (preferably 2-3 cm);
  • brush;
  • ruler;
  • glue;
  • stationery knife;
  • rubber.

We begin to make the future retro cover from the book:

  1. First, using glue around the entire outer perimeter, coat the pages of a closed book. To prevent the first and last sheets with the cover from sticking together, place a sheet of paper.
  2. Find a heavy load and press down on the book, let it dry well.
  3. After about 2 hours, you can cut out a place for the tablet, for this, give the same distance on each side.
  4. When you have an empty niche, glue the pages in it again.
  5. Flip the book over and glue the elastic at the end, you can also cut holes to make it fit snugly. The elastic will support the tablet.
  6. A closed book can also be fixed with an elastic band.

When choosing materials, start from the usual materials and shapes, make your case unique and unusual.
