Programs for rewriting hard disk sectors. How to use the Victoria program to erase information from a hard disk sector by sector and thereby get rid of bad sectors (bad blocks). Check HDD for bad sectors

An external hard drive is more vulnerable than a stationary media. It is constantly transported from place to place, exposed to environmental influences, risks of falling and incorrect connection. Therefore, it fails much more often. If the operating system cannot detect it at the next connection to the computer, then this may indicate damage to its file system. Let's look at how to recover an external media without formatting.

Reasons for problems with a removable disk

  • The file system is damaged.
  • A software error has occurred on the device.
  • The removable hard drive has been affected by a virus.
  • The device was not properly disconnected from the computer.
  • Careless handling of the drive, mechanical damage.

Is it possible to repair a portable hard drive without formatting it yourself? In most cases, unless the device has been mechanically damaged, the data on it can be recovered. To do this, consider 2 ways.

Recovering media using Windows

The external hard drive is checked for errors. To do this, run the utility that is included with Windows. To start it, you need to write the command "cmd" in the command line. After confirming the command, a console appears on the monitor, where the line "chkdsk h: / f" is written, in which "h" is the letter of your removable media.

If, when trying to check, the computer displays a message stating that it is not possible to check at the moment, then you need to agree to the offer to check the selected disk at the next system reboot.

You can choose another way to check the disk for errors, more visual and accessible. To do this, follow these steps:

In most cases, after a scan, the hard drive will completely restore its structure without formatting. After the treatment, it will start on its own, and all the data will be visible on the monitor.

Recovering an external drive using R-Studio

You can recover external media without formatting. This utility works with all known file systems, recovers information from deleted and damaged partitions, works with encrypted files.

After starting the program, all disks will be displayed in its window.

All media connected to the computer will be visible on the left side. Media recovery is performed in the following order:

  1. By choosing an external hard drive from this list, you can take a look at the information about this medium. It will be displayed in the right window.
  2. When you click on the "Scan" button, the program will scan the selected media, and display information in the form of color clusters.
  3. When you hover over a cluster, all information about it will be displayed on the right side of the window. The scan duration depends on the storage capacity. In some cases, it can take tens of minutes.
  4. At the end of the check, a window will appear as follows:
  5. We need to go to the subsection "EXTRA FOUND FILES". A list of found files will appear.
  6. Now the found files can be restored. To do this, you need to put labels in front of the files that we need.
  7. Press the RECOVER button. If you decide to restore all found files, you can immediately use the "RECOVER ALL" button.
  8. After confirming your choice, you need to decide where to save the recovered files.

Because they are very large, a decent hard drive is required. If there is a shortage of free space on the media, only part of the information can be restored. The restore operation begins with the appearance of such a window.

Even on the highest quality and most reliable HDD, some time after installation in the PC, broken sectors begin to appear. When the number of bad blocks becomes large, the hard drive stops working and needs to be replaced. However, the hard drive can often be restored using third-party software. This article will describe programs for treating a hard drive and provide instructions for working with them.

Broken sectors

HDD records user information on magnetic disks. Their surface is divided into paths and sectors. If you cannot extract data from a sector, then it is called bad or bad. Although it is difficult to restore bad blocks, it is quite possible.

Remember that after disinfection, the information from the HDD should be rewritten to another drive, and eventually the hard drive should be replaced. If bad sectors began to appear on the hard drive, then after the repair, their distribution will not stop. Another device failure can happen at any time.

VictoriaHDD

VictoriaHDD is a program for treating hard disk sectors, considered one of the most effective and absolutely free. The application works in DOS mode, so it requires some preparatory steps. First you should

  • Download the VictoriaHDD ISO image.
  • Also download the WinSetupFromUSB application and run it.
  • In the drop-down menu, select the USB drive that will later become bootable.
  • Check the box next to "Autoformat".
  • Check the box "Linux ISO" and show the full path to the VictoriaHDD program image.
  • Click on the "Go" button to start the file burning process.

BIOS settings

Since the programs for treating the hard drive run in DOS mode, you need to configure the BIOS.

  • Reboot your computer.
  • After turning on, press the DEL or F8 button several times to enter the Setup BIOS utility. Some devices have different keys assigned to launch BIOS settings. To find out which one is responsible for entering the "Setup BIOS" on your computer, read the information at the bottom of the screen immediately after turning on the machine.
  • Go to the "Main" section and find the "SATA Mode" item. Press "ENTER" and select "IDE".
  • Set the First Boot Device to USB.
  • Press the "F10" key to save the changes to the settings.
  • The computer will then restart.

Checking and restoring

If all of the above steps are performed correctly, after restarting the PC, VictoriaHDD will start automatically. To start hard drive recovery:

  • Press the "P" key on your keyboard.
  • In the menu that opens, select the port to which the HDD is connected. Today almost all drives work via the SATA socket, so you need to set the switch to the Ext PCI ATA / SATA position.
  • Press "F9", the screen will display information taken from the SMART table. Pay particular attention to the "Current pending sectors" column. It is here that the number of sectors is indicated, data from which are not read. Remember or write down this number.
  • Press the "F4" key and start scanning in the "BB: Erase 256" mode. The utility will try to find all bad blocks and restore them. In this case, the information stored in them will be deleted.
  • Reopen the SMART table and look at the number of bad sectors. If some of them could not be restored, it is worth scanning the HDD in a different mode.
  • Press the "F4" button and select "BB: Classic Remap". Now the application, when it finds a bad sector, will not restore it, but will mark it as non-working. This approach will stop the spread of bad blocks.
  • When VictoriaHDD finishes checking, restart your PC.

Programs for treatment tools built into the OS

After scanning the drive with the VictoriaHDD utility, it is worth checking with the utility installed in the operating system by default.

  • Open My Computer.
  • Right-click on the local disk icon.
  • Go to the "Service" tab.
  • Select Check Now.
  • In the window that opens, check the box next to the "Automatically fix errors".
  • Click on the "Start" button and wait for the program to finish.
  • Do not under any circumstances turn off your PC until the verification process is complete.

HDD Regenerator

HDD Regenerator is a freeware hard disk repair program. The main advantages of the utility include a user-friendly interface. Many users choose HDD Regenerator for this very reason.

  • Close all applications and launch HDD Regenerator.
  • Open the "Recovery" menu and click on the inscription "Start processing".
  • If a window appears on the screen with a warning about the BIOS settings, click on the "No" button.
  • Select the drive that needs treatment.
  • After that, a command line will open on the screen, where you will need to enter a number from 1 to 4.
  • Enter "2" and press "ENTER".
  • The utility will ask you to indicate where to start scanning. Just press the "Enter" button.
  • The application will scan the HDD and provide information about the bad blocks.
  • When the check is completed, enter "2", now the utility will not only check the hard drive, but also try to recover the bad sectors.

I must say that the program for treating the hard drive Windows 7 is very slow. Sometimes the process is delayed for 2-3 days. However, it is really trying to restore the ability of blocks to store data, and not just mark them as unused, which explains the long scan time.

MHDD

MHDD functionality is almost identical to VictoriaHDD. The application runs in DOS mode. It can be used to view the SMART table, diagnose and disinfect the hard drive. The program is not presented in Russian.

  • Create a bootable USB stick as you did for the VictoriaHDD utility.
  • Perform BIOS setup and restart your computer.
  • Press "F2" and select the device you want to work with.
  • To scan the surface of the hard drive, enter the word "SCAN" or use F4. The screen will display settings in which all destructive functions are disabled (erasing, removing bad blocks).
  • Press "F4" again. Scanning will start, and the display will show a table in which the colors of the cells will change during the test: white, gray, green - the sector is operational; yellow - there is a risk of damage; red - the unit is damaged.

If there are bad blocks on the drive:

  • Copy all information to another HDD.
  • Enter the ERASE command, which will completely erase data from each sector. This will get rid of the soft-bad blocks.
  • If this does not solve the problem, press the "F4" key and enable the REMAP option. Now the utility, like the programs built into Windows for treating the hard drive, will simply mark the bad sectors, and they will no longer be used.

Over time, bad sectors appear on any HDD, which are inaccessible for reading. When the number of bad blocks exceeds all permissible limits, the hard drive refuses to work. However, under certain conditions, the hard drive can be cured using special software.

What are bad blocks?

An HDD (hard disk) is a series of magnetic disks with a head that records and reads information above them. The drive surface is divided into tracks and sectors (the smallest unit of division). If information is not read from a certain sector, then this is: bad, bad, broken, or just a bad block.

Recovering bad sectors is not an easy task, but doable. If there are not many bad blocks on the HDD, you can cure the disk while simultaneously extending its life.

The very presence of bad sectors is a bad sign, therefore, even after repair, you cannot use the HDD for a long time - it can fail at any time.

Working with VictoriaHDD

VictoriaHDD is one of the most well-known hard disk treatment programs. It is distributed under a free license and allows you to fix bad blocks in DOS mode. However, working with it requires some preparation.

Creating a bootable USB flash drive and configuring the BIOS

Download the VictoriaHDD utility ISO and write it to a USB flash drive using WinSetupFromUSB.

  1. Open WinSetupFromUSB and select the connected USB flash drive.
  2. Check "Auto format", choose "FAT32".
  3. Specify LinuxISO / otherGrub system and click the button on the right. Show the path to the downloaded ISO image through the explorer, click "Go" to start recording.
  4. After creating the Victoria bootable media, you need to restart your computer and open the BIOS. In the "Main" section there is an item "SATA Mode" - for it you need to set the value "IDE", because in the "AHCI Mode" Victoria does not recognize the connected disk. Press F10 to exit BIOS and save changes.

After completing all the preparatory steps, restart your computer again. At startup, start pressing F11 to bring up the boot menu. Select the Victoria bootable flash drive to run the program in DOS mode.

Recovery and subsequent verification

To restore, do the following operations:

  1. Once launched, press P (English) to bring up the Port Selection menu. If the hard drive is connected via the SATA interface, select the “Ext. PCI ATA / SATA ". For hard drives connected via IDE, you need to select the appropriate port.
  2. A list of channels appears, each with a number. See what number your disk is designated and enter it in the field below.
  3. Press F9 to open the SMART table. Study two points: "Reallocated sector count" and "Current pending sectors". The first line contains the sectors transferred to the reserve zone; in the second - places from which information is not read (bad blocks). If there are few bad sectors, try to repair them.
  4. Press F4 and start the "BB: Erase 256 sect" mode. If during the analysis the program finds a bad block, it will try to fix it. If the sector is not physically damaged, then Victoria will heal it. Information from this place will be erased (therefore, it is advisable to transfer all the necessary files in advance to another medium), but on the other hand, there will be fewer bad blocks.
  5. If the sectors cannot be restored, transfer them to the backup area. Press F4 again and start the "BB: Classic REMAP" mode. Look at the SMART table after the scan is complete - the number of bad blocks should decrease.

After running Victoria HDD, it is advisable to check the disk:

These measures will help you to eliminate bad discs, which will ultimately lead to an increase in the duration of the hard drive.

Using HDD Regenerator

If Victoria seemed difficult, try performing disk recovery and fixing the so-called bad blocks using the HDD Regenerator program. The peculiarity of this utility is that it has access to the software and hardware of the HDD. HDD Regenerator really tries to cure bad sectors, while most programs prohibit access to bad blocks, as a result of which the volume of the hard drive decreases.

To fix this problem, start Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and close all applications. Go to the Processes tab and quit all processes started by the user. Click Retry to make the program try to access the disk partitions.

If the warning window reappears, restart your computer and start the system in safe mode. You can ignore the warning by clicking "Cancel" rather than "Repeat", but then HDD Regenerator will work with some limitations.

A command line-like window will open. In it you will see 4 options for the program:

  1. Checking and restoring bad blocks.
  2. Checking without recovery, showing information about bad blocks.
  3. Regeneration of bad sectors at a specific location.
  4. Statistics output.

First select operating mode # 2. The hard drive will be checked for bad. The next screen will appear, where you are asked to specify the interval in which to search for bads. Better to start testing from the beginning, so leave the value at "0".

After starting the disk scan, a progress bar will appear. You will have to wait a long time; sometimes the system will freeze - this indicates that the program has detected bad sectors and is now determining the extent of their damage.

When the hard disk surface analysis is complete, a report appears. Examine the points “bad sectors founded” and “bad sectors recovered”. These lines indicate the number of found and recovered bads. If the line “bad sectors founded” contains a lot of bad sectors, then you will hardly be able to fix bad sectors, but you can try.

Recovery of bad blocks in HDD Regenerator

Connect the USB flash drive and run the HDD Regenerator program. Select the "Bootable flash drive" mode. Highlight the connected drive and click "OK". All information will be erased from the flash drive. Instead, files will be written to enable DOS mode to start. Further:

  1. Reboot your computer.
  2. When the system starts, start pressing the F11 key until the drive selection window appears.
  3. Select the removable disk that contains the HDD Regenerator files.

The program will run in DOS - this mode is better suited for curing bad sectors. The window that you already saw when working in Windows will appear. Select check and restore bad blocks (operating mode # 1).

    Broken sectors are found on almost all HDDs. Especially on those that are actively used for a long time. Sometimes the problem gets out of control and turns into a real disaster, destroying all data on the HDD in any partitions. To prevent this from happening, learn how to recover bad sectors of your hard drive at home.

    What are bad sectors and why do they appear?

    You can imagine a bad block in the form of a book with the last chapter torn out. You can finish reading it up to a certain point. But once there is a gap in the pages, you won't be able to finish reading. The HDD works the same way. The magnetic head reads information within the track, but in some area it encounters a damaged surface or an empty bit of information, which makes it impossible to extract the information to the end.

    Almost all hard drives have bad partitions. It can be one or several, and in most cases it is not scary. But over time, there are more and more of them, and they increasingly complicate the operation of information on the HDD. Such areas can be detected by scanning the hard disk for bad sectors with special utilities.

    There can be many reasons for the appearance of bad sectors:

    • disc hit or improper use;
    • interrupting recording by turning off the power;
    • overheating and temperature jumps;
    • natural wear of the heads and writing disc;
    • poor quality products.

    You can also divide the broken sectors into non-recoverable and recoverable. The former include those caused by shock or overheating. They are destroyed once and cannot be restored, and information, as a rule, disappears irrevocably. The second type of bad sectors appears as a result of the interruption of the recording process. They can be reanimated by simply overwriting the disc.

    Over time, the read and write speed may decrease. And after a small drop of your laptop, the disk may refuse to work at all. Everything would be really bad if there were no way to somehow regenerate bad blocks. The fact is that hard drives have some kind of spare area, which means that they have a potentially larger volume than stated in the check. You can use the extra space to transfer content from damaged areas to it. How to recover bad sectors of a hard disk in this way is indicated below.

    The danger is near

    You can notice the problem not only after a hard drive failure, but also at the initial stages. You should be wary after the following signs:

    • disk write / read speed dropped;
    • unusual noise is heard when accessing the HDD;
    • began to overheat;
    • exposed to mechanical stress;
    • the system often crashes, and at startup chkdsk is automatically launched.

    Typically, these reasons indicate the beginning of the end of your HDD. In order not to lose data, a backup is the first good solution. Transfer all the files you need to another computer, flash drive, disk, and, if possible, even set up synchronization with the cloud.

    Most modern hard drives are checked for bad sectors themselves, without user intervention. This is both good and bad, since you cannot influence the elimination of bad blocks and find out about their appearance on the system partitions.

    When to scan?

    You can scan your hard drive for errors at a certain frequency, which depends on the frequency of computer use and is calculated individually. Someone conducts scheduled maintenance of the computer once a month, someone - once every six months.

    To do this, you can use system utilities or programs to recover bad sectors of the hard drive. Scanning should be performed immediately after detecting the problems listed above.

    Scanning by standard means

    Starting with Windows 8, the system itself is able to scan disks on a schedule and thereby prolong the operation of the HDD. You can set up a scan schedule at the address: "My Computer" / "Management" (a tab will appear in the main menu when the section is active). In Windows, checking the hard disk for bad sectors can be carried out with the standard chkdsk program. The utility can be launched in several ways:

    The work is not fundamentally different, so let's consider the first option:

    1. Open a command prompt as administrator. Right-click on the "Start" menu icon or simply in the lower left corner on Windows 8 and select "Command Prompt (Administrator)" from the list.
    2. If you want to scan a non-system disk, enter the command with the chkdsk / f / r keys to scan and immediately fix the entire disk, and chkdsk D: / f / r to fix only the D partition or any other available one. Additionally, you can enter the / x switch to disable the scanned volume during scanning. In the case of diagnosing a working disk, the program will offer to reboot to do the work without logging in.
    3. If chkdsk finds errors in the used partitions, it will offer to reboot and fix the sectors before starting the system.

    Type help chkdsk to display all options. A list will appear in which all available keys will be visible with explanations. You can use any combination at your discretion, if you understand the essence of what is happening and the possible consequences. At the end of the scan, all data about the operation will be displayed in the log.

    Third party programs

    In addition to the built-in chkdsk, you can use third-party programs to fix bad sectors on your hard drive. There are many software that can repair damaged partitions.

    Among the popular free software I would like to highlight Victoria. This program for recovering bad sectors of a hard disk is well known and at one time was very popular among masters. The Victoria program is capable of working in both window and DOS modes, which makes it possible to use it even on dead systems to recover information.

    Victoria interface

    The program is perfect for recovering bad sectors of a hard drive. Victoria is intended rather for experienced users, since it practically does not contain an interface and does not even have a localization tool in the kit. But this does not prevent it from working correctly with hardware and file systems.

    There are a lot of settings, switches and different numbers, and when you open the program for the first time, it can be difficult to navigate. But, following the instructions below, let's learn how to recover bad sectors on your hard drive.

    Testing and analysis

    In the Smart tab of this program, you can quickly assess the overall health of the disk. The score is based on an analysis of the various values shown in the table. There you can also view the status of each parameter separately.

    For simple testing, go to the Tests tab. There are quite a few settings in each section, so for the initial analysis, you can leave everything by default. Click on the Start button and wait for the testing to complete. A complete check of a hard disk for bad sectors takes a long time. Therefore, you can safely leave testing for the night and go to bed.

    Additionally, the window contains a graph of speed or color indication of sectors. You can switch the view with the Grid checkbox next to the timer.

    Fixing sectors

    If there is no time to wait for several checks, then after assessing the condition, you can immediately start treating the bad sectors of the hard disk. Victoria uses the Remap method to overwrite blocks. It reassigns bad blocks to normal ones from the disk spare space. To repair broken sectors, do the following:

    During the check, all errors found and a report on the measures taken will be displayed in the log. It also indicates on which part of the disk the problems were found.

    How to trim?

    Broken partitions are often predominant at the beginning or at the end of the disk. The thought immediately comes to my mind: "And if you do not use the space with broken sectors?" Yes, it can be cropped and not used anymore. You can find out which partition of disk space is better to prune like this:

    It is worth working with the system disk only in DOS mode, until the OS is loaded. While the backup or restore can be partitioned directly from under Windows. This method is good for large HDDs. But it does not help exactly to restore the broken partitions on the hard disk, as it happens during the remap process.

    Prevention

    To prevent the hard drive from "dying" in your hands, it is advisable to carry out some prophylaxis. Depending on the type of equipment.

    If you have a laptop:

    • try not to hit him;
    • do not shake too much, especially during working hours;
    • do not expose to vibrations or temperature extremes.

    If you have a desktop computer:

    • do not place the system unit in a damp place;
    • do not overheat components;
    • although the HDD itself is sealed, the board can be damaged by a layer of dust, so get rid of it;
    • Install additional cooling on the hard drive if the computer is actively used or the hard drive is unable to cool itself.

    Defragmentation is a useful preventive measure for all hard drives. For its implementation, there are a lot of programs, both regular and third-party.

    Now you know how to recover bad sectors on a hard drive and may even be able to save valuable information on it in case of problems.

    A hard disk is an important, but far from perfect, component of a personal computer. For some users, it does not work reliably, "crumbles", data from it is lost or is significantly damaged. One of the most common problems with a hard disk is the appearance of so-called "bad" (bad) sectors on it, which become a "headache" for many users. In this article, I will talk about the reasons for the appearance of bad sectors on the hard disk, list a number of programs that allow you to recognize them, and also explain how the hard disk is checked for bad sectors on your PC.

    What are bad sectors?

    As you know, a traditional hard disk consists of several rotating magnetic disks, over which magnetic heads move, magnetizing any part of the disk and thus writing information on it (in the form of zeros and ones).

    The disc itself is divided into tracks, and the latter, in turn, are divided into sectors on which the information necessary for the user is recorded.

    Due to certain reasons (I will list them below), information from a number of sectors cannot be read by the hard drive. Such sectors receive the status of "bad sectors", and the system tries to either restore the operability of such a sector (restore), or reassign the address of such a bad sector to the backup sector (remap), or carry out its total cleaning of the bad sector (erase). In the case of remap, spare usable sectors are usually located at the end of the hard disk, and the hard drive spends additional time accessing them, which inevitably affects the speed of the hard disk, loading various applications and programs. Next, I will tell you in what ways you can check your computer's hard drive for bad sectors.

    Reasons for the appearance of bad sectors

    What are the reasons for the appearance of bad sectors on the HDD? They are usually as follows:

    • Gradual "crumbling" of the hard disk surface due to its wear, due to which there are more and more bad sectors on the disk;
    • Physical impact on the hard drive due to various kinds of external shocks;
    • Power surges in the network, directly affecting the integrity of data on the hard disk, and leading to the appearance of bad sectors;
    • Incorrect shutdown of the computer (improper operation), as a result of which bad sectors appear on the hard drive.

    Symptoms of the appearance of broken sectors

    Due to the described reasons, the number of bad sectors on the hard disk becomes more and more, which begins to directly affect the operation of the operating system. In particular, you may notice the following:

    • The system boots slowly;
    • The system slows down (freezes) when reading and writing data from the hard disk;
    • The system refuses to boot at all (quite often - in the middle of the process);
    • The computer sometimes restarts for no reason;
    • During the operation of the OS, various errors occur regularly.

    After we have described the symptoms and causes of the appearance of bad sectors, let's move on to a description of how to check the hard disk for bad sectors.

    The best ways to check your hard drive for bad sectors

    So how to check for bad sectors (and fix them)? Below I will describe a number of methods that have proven to be effective with various hard drives.

    Method 1. We use the system utility CHKDSK

    The easiest and most convenient way to find and fix bad sectors on an HHD hard drive is to use the functionality of the CHKDSK system utility.

    1. To take advantage of its capabilities, start Explorer, right-click on an inactive volume (which does not have an installed operating system), in the menu that appears, select "Properties".
    2. In the window that opens, go to the "Service" tab, there click on the "Check" button.
    3. Check the boxes next to the two check options, click on "Run", and wait for the process to finish.

    The same can be done for the system volume (on which the OS is installed). The only thing that this may require a system reboot, but after the system reboots, it will start checking the disk for bad sectors.

    You can also run CHKDSK from the console. To do this, run the command line as administrator, and enter in it:

    chkdsk c: / f / r - (instead of c: if necessary, specify a different letter of the problem drive) press enter and wait for the end of the process.

    Method 2. We use the Victoria HDD program to analyze and treat the disk

    Victoria HDD is probably the most popular program for checking a hard drive for bad sectors (and for restoring the latter). It effectively checks and repairs bad sectors, has good reviews from specialists, and can be used both in classic graphics mode and in DOS mode.

    One of the bonuses of "Wiki" is the ability to read the SMART indicator of your hard drive, which allows you to track the degree of its performance in sufficient detail (the "SMART" tab of the program). In addition, the Victoria program performs "remapping" (reassignment of bad sectors), zeroes bad sectors, conducts a detailed test of the hard drive surface, ranking sectors into different groups depending on the speed of reading information from them.

    1. To use this program download and run it.
    2. Then go to the "Test" tab, select "Ignore" there and check the surface for bad sectors.
    3. If such are found, you should select the "Remap" mode in the same tab, this will allow you to reassign addresses from broken sectors to backup ones.
    4. If, after remapping, bad sectors remain, you can try to restore them using the "Restore" function, while the "Erase" function completely erases data in bad sectors, writing zeros there.

    In general, the functionality of "Victoria" is quite extensive, and to get acquainted with its full description, you need to go to the material about the use of the program.

    Method 3. We use the HDD Scan program to check the hard drive for bad sectors

    Another program that can check the hard drive for bad sectors is HDD Scan. This is a fairly popular utility that offers several different tests (Surface Test, Smart Offline Tests, etc.). Select Surface Test, check the "Read" checkbox on the right and start checking the disk surface.

    The program will analyze the response time of the available sectors, and give us the result in graphical mode.

    Method 4. Checking your hard drive with HDD Regenerator

    The HDD Regenerator program allows you to check and recover data on a hard disk, the same applies to bad sectors. Note that the program is paid, but those who wish can search the network for its free options.

    1. To use the capabilities of the program, you need to launch it, select a disk for work, decide on the scan mode (I recommend Normal Scan), and then select the "Scan and repair" option.
    2. Then it will be necessary to specify the scanning boundaries (starting from sector 0) and monitor the scanning process itself.
    3. In contrast to the response speed, the sectors will be marked with different letters and colors.

    Method 5. Scan the disk with the HDD Health program for bad sectors

    Another program for checking the disk surface is bad sectors. HDD Health analyzes the general state of the disk, provides detailed statistics on the available partitions (using SMART technology, including the general state of the structure, the indicator of the disk rotation temperature, the presence of bad sectors, and so on).

    The icon of the running program is located in the system tray, while the program itself, as necessary, notifies the user of any problems with the hard disk.

    Hard disk recovery, deleting BAD (broken) sectors [video]

    Usually, checking the hard drive for bad sectors is carried out using special software tools, the Victoria HDD or HDD Regenerator level. The most effective of all the programs listed in the article - Victoria HDD allows not only checking the surface of the hard disk for bad sectors, but also restoring them, remapping and cleaning them. If bad sectors began to appear on your hard drive, then I recommend using the functionality of the above programs, they have proven their effectiveness in working with hard drives of many users.
