Operation and personal experience

We hone our skills. SteelSeries Siberia 200 Review

In some systems that are at a very good level, any change, even a very small one, can both improve the result and slightly blur the previous achievements. And even if the changes go through all the stages of approval and technically improve the characteristics on all points, there is a risk that a regular user, accustomed to the current state of affairs, will not be completely satisfied. I hope each of you has brought a mechanism, process or system to such a high state and faced an attempt to change it.

In my opinion, through the prism of time, this is how the appearance of a gaming headset on the market can be characterized. "Treshka" continued the good traditions of V2, improved some elements of the body, but overdid it a little with the lower frequencies. This has been noted by many users, and many of them have looked back at the previous version. Now, the SteelSeries line has adopted a different letter designation and a new product with the name SteelSeries Siberia 200 got to us for testing. Let's look at the 200 and find out from which predecessors it took more genes :).

Contents of delivery

SteelSeries Siberia 200 comes in a package of regular sizes, it is informative: there is a name, characteristics, photo and some analogue of the block diagram. In general, the packaging is ordinary, without frills in the form of viewing windows and similar variations - that's right, we don't want to overpay!

The scope of delivery can be called minimal. It includes a small warranty card, a pair of compact SteelSeries stickers and an adapter from two regular mini jack 3.5 to one universal one.

To connect the Siberia 200, two regular mini jack 3.5 are used, one for sound and the other for a microphone. They are on a wire 1.8 meters long. The wire does not have a fabric braid, but the rubber coating has a small texture, probably to improve "spreadability". There is a remote on the wire that allows you to adjust the volume and mute the microphone.

Visual inspection

Whatever one may say, the new product is very similar to its predecessors! Traditionally, the structure uses a fixed headband with two rails and one soft suspension. Matte plastic is commonly used in the structure of the body parts, in our case it is white. However, the manufacturer offers as many as seven different color variations, among which there are very, very attractive and unique combinations.

The design of the headband guides inherited the version from the V2, they are more elongated and have one attachment post, while on the “three-ruble”, the post was divided into two and the “tubes” were more rounded. Let me remind you that this type of headband allows you to find the desired fit as quickly as possible, the headset does it itself, in the process of dressing. Nothing to adjust, and even more so, you do not need to tweak.

On the outside of the floating gimbal there is a place for a clearly visible manufacturer's logo. From this angle, you will not find any differences from previous versions.

The gimbal itself also inherited a variation from the second version. It is divided into two zones: the inner one has a soft coating for the fabric, the outer one is designed like a thin leather. The armor-piercing of the outer coating caused me questions, somehow I was afraid to scratch it ... Suspensions, made in the form of cables, are attached to a plastic heel and can walk a little separately from each other. To be honest, I liked the three-note gimbal variation more, it is more monolithic and resistant to impact.

The headband design allows the headset to maximize responsiveness. Everything here is similar to the previous solutions. However, with sharp influences, I was able to hear squeaks in the area of the cups, three rubles did not have this, and I will not say for the girl.

Note that in relation to the headband, the mount of the cups is slightly shifted horizontally, sometimes this has a positive effect on the fit. In the third version, everything was smooth.

Continuing with the offset theme, the speaker area is also not parallel to the ear cushions, and the offset cabinet area is made of a fabric cover.

The fit of the cup is adjustable along one explicit axis. Possible angle is not so big, but everything is similar to V2. Other position changes are possible due to the flexibility of the headband.

The ear cushions are full-sized, have a coating imitation leather. The coating is soft and generally tactilely pleasant. Due to the sufficient softness of the filler, the cups adhere evenly to the head.

The microphone foot, by analogy with the V3, is very flexible and allows you to set the desired shape. When carried, the leg hides perfectly in the speaker cup.

And how are they?

Well, to be honest, the sound of the SteelSeries Siberia 200 has come to a state of balance! Previously excessive low frequencies were minimized and now does not interrupt the upper and middle zones. However, the bass did not disappear at all - hearing explosions and heavy shots are very pleasant to hear. Positioning in the final process is also pleasing, small sounds, steps and shots are emitted exactly where they really happen.

The sound of the Siberia 200 reminded me of something. But the novelty has a larger volume reserve. By the way, no extraneous sounds are observed at maximum volume, but everything becomes clearly "heaped up" :). Here, let's not forget to mention sound insulation, it is at a level slightly below average. At half the volume, the voice of others is lost, but still heard. Likewise, in the opposite direction, more than the middle and the understanding ear recognizes a familiar melody.

The fit is not too different from the V3, it is simply very good. Due to its lightness, the headset is not really felt, there is definitely no excess pressure. Like other Siberias with floating base, it is constantly felt, which at times seems bothersome.

I was also pleased with the small remote control: the volume is adjustable, the microphone is turned off. Everything is familiar and understandable. However, what was not entirely pleasing was the length of the wire. He's a little short. Most likely, you will not power it on the back panel of the system unit. In this regard, I liked the V3 more.

New ruler numbering

In 2015, a line of renumbered devices was presented to the general public: from the most budgetary wired headphones Siberia 100 to a top-end wireless headset Siberia 800... Some of these devices can be called completely new, but some of them are based on already well-known and proven models.

Today, a model that has already become a classic arrived at our iron shop SteelSeries Siberia 200 based on the legendary gaming headset SteelSeries V2 and being its logical continuation. According to the manufacturers, the headset was re-launched into production at the request of a huge number of players who fell in love with Siberia v2... By the way, most of all this model was praised not only for its excellent noise isolation and sound quality, but also for its affordable price.

The most important difference between a gaming headset SteelSeries Siberia 200 from its predecessor is a huge number of color options in which it is on sale. Currently, in stores you can find a device made in the following colors: white, black, red, green, yellow, gold (in our review), purple. The average cost of a headset in Russian stores is 6900 rubles, which is comparable to its predecessor.

What other innovations have been introduced in SteelSeries Siberia 200, and is it worth taking this model for those who already have SteelSeries Siberia V2, read our review.

Gaming headset SteelSeries Siberia 200 Supplied in a cardboard box with the earphones shown on the front. You can find out about the technical characteristics and basic features of the headset by reading the information on the side and back of the box.

Construction and design

Headset design SteelSeries Siberia 200, compared to its predecessor Siberia v2, hardly changed. In the design of the device, three main materials still prevail: plastic, fabric and artificial leather. The headband is made of the following components: two hard plastic half rings on the outside and a fabric backing on the inside. The backing is attached to the earbuds with metallized threads and can be stretched to fit the device perfectly to the user's head. Overall ergonomics SteelSeries Siberia 200 almost perfect (better only in the top model). Headphones can be used for hours without getting tired of being in them.

One of the main differences of the new headset in comparison with its predecessor is the possibility of an extended choice of the color of the device upon purchase. Not only classic white and black colors are available for sale, but also extravagant red, green and even gold. Thanks to such a huge abundance of options, each player will be able to find a suitable color scheme for themselves. At the moment, the headset SteelSeries Siberia 200 released in seven color shades. By the way, in our today's review we are testing one of the most beautiful combinations: alchemical gold.

Cups and ear pads

Gaming headset cups SteelSeries Siberia 200 made of glossy plastic of not very good quality, which is almost completely identical to the original SteelSeries Siberia V2... The disadvantage of the applied coating is that dust easily settles on it, fingerprints remain and plastic is easily scratched. We have already drawn attention to this more than once in previous reviews of models. SteelSeries focused on the budget segment of the market, and we believe that in the updated line of headsets it would be more appropriate to use a soft-touch plastic covering that resembles rubber to the touch. If this is critical for you, then it is better to take a closer look at the models that have such a coating: SteelSeries Siberia V3 , SteelSeries Siberia Elite Prism and others.

Gaming Headphones Siberia 200 are full-sized, which means that the ear cushions fit completely around your ears. Made of quality imitation leather and covered with Memory Foam, the ear cushions provide excellent sound insulation. This means that a comfortable use of the device is possible absolutely in any room and transport. The advantage of the coating is that after several hours of use SteelSeries Siberia 200 the ears almost do not sweat (which cannot be said about a number of monitor headphones from other manufacturers).

Retractable microphone

Like its predecessor, the microphone Siberia 200 is retractable and made of flexible plastic. The microphone itself is unidirectional and is located in the left cup. The microphone's sensitivity is simply amazing (audio is captured in the frequency range from 50 Hz to 16,000 Hz), making it ideal for communication not only during game battles, but also for any voice chats and Skype conferences. The transmitted speech is clear, without distortion and interference, and thanks to the unidirectional microphone, extraneous noise is perfectly cut off.

We are already accustomed to the fact that most of the SteelSeries gaming headset models currently have one-color or multi-color LED-backlit cups. In this case, the company has remained true to tradition. Like the legendary Siberia v2, on the ear cups Siberia 200 there is no backlight. How good or bad it is is up to you. Let's just say that such a solution allowed to reduce the total cost of the headset and bring it to a level comparable to the previous model of the company.

Remote Control

Taking a look at the gaming headset wire Siberia 200 you can find another difference from Siberia v2... There is a small control panel on it that allows you to adjust the volume of the sound, as well as turn the microphone on and off. Such a solution is really convenient and timely, the original model definitely lacked such a remote control.

At the end of the wire there are two 3.5 mm Mini Jack connectors. The first plug is inserted into the headphone jack, and the second is for the microphone jack. To connect a headset SteelSeries Siberia 200 the included adapter for a single 3.5 mm Mini Jack connector is provided for mobile devices. This is quite logical and much more convenient than, say, in the same Plantronics GameCom 318, since it does not lead to significant lengthening of the wire.

The headset control panel is located on the wire (volume control and microphone activation)

Likewise with the predecessor Siberia v2, in the new model you will not find a built-in sound card and a headset jack via USB. As a result, the headphones Siberia 200 no compatibility with the proprietary application SteelSeries Engine 3... If this is critical for you, we advise you to take a closer look at other gaming headsets.

Sound quality

The most important characteristic of any headphone is the sound quality. According to the assurances of the manufacturers, Siberia 200 new 50 mm speakers are installed, the sound quality of which is superior to the previous model. Comparing the two headsets with each other, it can be noted that this is indeed the case. If the original Siberia v2 gave powerful bass and high-quality mids, then when playing a number of songs focused exclusively on high frequencies, some of them were noticeably chopped.

In games, the quality of reproduction of low and medium frequencies is much more important (especially explosions and shooting in furious action games), so this factor does not really matter, but for listening to musical compositions of some genres, headphones Siberia v2 not particularly suitable. New headset Siberia 200 is devoid of this drawback: the sound at any frequency is clear, pleasant and even. This model can be called generally universal, since it is perfect not only for gamers, but also for music lovers.

The bottom line ...

Summing up, I would like to say that SteelSeries definitely succeeded in relaunching the classic model Siberia v2... The company's engineers were able to achieve several significant improvements in Siberia 200, while maintaining the same cost of the device 6900 rubles, including: improved sound quality, the appearance of a headset control panel, as well as the ability to choose from a huge number of colors.

Assessing the device as a whole, the gaming headset has SteelSeries Siberia 200 you can find many advantages: excellent ergonomics, high-quality sound, sensitive microphone, good sound insulation and the ability to connect to mobile devices. Among the shortcomings, we note only a modest package bundle, glossy plastic cups and lack of software support SteelSeries Engine 3.

If you are planning to purchase a headset and do not know which of the models in the line Siberia choose, feel free to take Siberia 200... In case you are the owner Siberia v2 and want to buy something new, you'd better pay attention to other models, for example:

Siberia 200 is a modern development of SteelSeries Corporation, which is undoubtedly one of the leading and leading companies in the production of gaming peripherals, which for several years has been the choice of professional players and eSports organizations.
SteelSeries Siberia 200 is a modified version of the legendary line, which today is more than 10 years old. Although the changes between models are not so obvious, SteelSeries are developing new devices not from scratch, but honing already worked out materials in order to get closer to the absolute.

The Siberia 200 headset has a traditional 2x3.5mm connection option, but the manufacturer has carefully equipped the headset with an adapter for a mobile phone. Taking into account the fact that the sound quality of the headset grows from model to model, and the mobile phone has turned from just a dialer into a multimedia combine, it is worth noting that the presence of an adapter in the kit is more than pleasing. You can listen to your favorite music on the go, or watch movies from your tablet while traveling, as well as, without making additional settings, use your gaming headset together with DUALSHOCK 4 when playing on PS4.

The headset is built around 50mm speakers that deliver great music, surround sound for movies, and, most importantly for a gaming headset, the maximum positioning you can get from 2.0 headphones.
The SteelSeries Siberia 200 is equipped with a unidirectional microphone that has a flexible stem for more detailed positioning. When there is no need to use a microphone, it can be hidden in the speaker bowl with a slight movement of the hand
SteelSeries Siberia 200, is a worthy continuation of the legendary line, and deserves your attention.

SteelSeries Siberia 200 black

After the release of the Siberia V3 gaming headset, the V2 was scrapped. However, the mere thought that gamers would no longer have to hold the good old V2 in their hands left many of them disheartened. Yes, the V3 is definitely a good headset. But, there is one "but"! It is radically different from its predecessor. So despite the V3's ultra-lightweight design and comfort, the gaming community began to miss the powerful 50mm drivers and build quality of the V2, and soon began clamoring for the latter to be returned to production. And it certainly made sense for manufacturers to update the V2, given their impeccable reputation and admit that the Siberia V2 is undeniably the most popular headset ever made.

Of the many gaming headsets, SteelSeries Siberia headphones are arguably the most sought after. Their first modification was released back in 2007 and very quickly found their first fans, whose number was constantly growing. Gamers were captivated by good ergonomics, thanks to which it is impossible to tear yourself away from the game for a long time. Danish developers, after analyzing the high growth in demand, began to release modified versions of the headset. Today Steelseries gaming headphones are represented by six completely independent devices and their different variations. We will devote our review to the next new improved version called SteelSeries Siberia 200.

SteelSeries Siberia 200 Gaming Headphone Box and Package

The SteelSeries Siberia 200 is packaged in a brightly colored cardboard box. Under the name of the model, you can see a promising inscription in English, which in Russian sounds like: "The best gaming headset in its class." There is a sticker on the top cover of the package. It features the emblems of eSports teams who wear SteelSeries headsets while competing in tournaments. Those interested in gaming battles know and have seen the products of such companies as: Dendi, Olofmeister or SumaiL with mice from Sensei / Rival and a 6Gv2 or Apex keyboard. Among them you will find a representative of our review.

Opening the cardboard box, we find a plastic platform that serves for the presentation of the headset and protects it from external damage.

The package bundle is rather meager:

  • the headphones themselves;
  • mini-jack adapter;
  • sticker;
  • instruction.
In the new model, the cable has a length of 1.8 meters, which is quite comfortable to use. The remote control will help you to adjust the volume in the headset and turn on / off the microphone. Note that the wire braid is rubber, but the quality is even better than in Apple chargers and Razer mice. At the ends of the wire there is a double 3.5 mm plug.

SteelSeries Siberia 200 design and ergonomics

In appearance and shape, the SteelSeries Siberia 200 headphones are almost exactly the same as the Siberia v2. There are no complaints about the design, it is quite modern and stylish, there are no unnecessary elements such as bright backlighting. The entire body is made of matte plastic, it is smooth and there are few glossy texture inserts around some elements. The cups have a decorative steel mesh on the sides. Due to the two rubber arches, which are located on top of the headband, the structure becomes mobile. In the creation of the headband, fabric and leatherette were used. The view from such compatibility is good, it's nice to look at the iridescent logo of the manufacturer. However, you need to carefully monitor the cleanliness of the rag material, and if it gets dirty, it is not so easy to wipe it off.

The arms adjust the height independently and are firmly fixed on the user's head and do not create discomfort. The cups rotate 20-25 degrees. The ear cushions have an inner diameter of 50 mm and due to this, they completely cover the ear, thereby improving sound insulation. However, we note that they do not fit snugly to the ear, therefore, they are not very suitable for real cybersportsmen. At home, you will always hear when the kettle is boiling in the kitchen to pour yourself some coffee and plunge into the gaming world again. Black leatherette is also used for decoration. The assembly is generally good, there are no squeaks, the elements have no backlash, the plastic is strong enough, and almost no fingerprints remain.

Note that SteelSeries is a headphone with a microphone that can slide in and out at the right time. It is located in the left cup and is practically invisible when folded. Its base has good flexibility, it easily holds the fixed shape.

SteelSeries Siberia 200 headset in action

The very idea that the SteelSeries Siberia 200 does not need to be pre-set is already encouraging. I just want to adjust something, but the headphones themselves adjust to the structure of the head. The headband is soft enough and puts a minimum of pressure on the ears, but even if you turn your head sharply, the headphones will not fall off. This type of headset only contributes to long-term work at the computer and everything would be fine if not for one thing - the degree of fit. The earbuds do not fit snugly around the ears and therefore the background sounds may interfere with the wearer. And the sound from the game or listening to music can create discomfort for others.

If we talk about the quality of sound, then immediately you need to consider why such a model was developed. Note that for watching videos and playing games at home, thanks to the good bass, the SteelSeries Siberia 200 is the best fit. The high frequencies, like the middle ones, are not so good, although in general the sound comes out quite realistic and voluminous. When listening to audio, the bass gets in the way, it clearly lacks saturation, and some of the instruments are not displayed at all at a high frequency. The microphone works flawlessly, the volume is good, the sound is clear and does not disappear, and the voice is distinct.

Steelseries 32 ohm gaming headphones have the ability to easily pair with a variety of mobile devices. The technical structure is very similar to the familiar Steelseries Siberia v2 headphones. Basically, the Steelseries Siberia 200 has been redesigned with more headphone colors.

SteelSeries Siberia 100 vs Siberia 200 Headphones Comparison

You can give some comparisons of the SteelSeries Siberia 200 with the Siberia 100. To do this, let's compare them by 9 indicators:
  1. Cable. The longer the cable, the more space to work with. In the Siberia 100, the cable is 1.2 meters, and in the Siberia 200 it is increased to 1.8 meters.
  2. Soundproofing. If it is at a good level, then those around you will not hear sounds from your headphones, and you will not hear extraneous sounds from the outside. This indicator is the same in the two devices.
  3. Microphone frequency. The Siberia 200, like the Siberia 100, has a frequency of 16000Hz.
  4. Microphone sensitivity level. In other words, the highest volume supported by the microphone. It is the same for each model (38dBV / Pa).
  5. The presence of a neodymium magnet. Such magnets are better than ferrite devices. They are powerful and lightweight. Due to their sound, the sound is clearer and there is a lot of bass. In our case, two Siberias have them.
  6. Sound pressure. The higher the number, the louder the sound. In the Siberia 200, it is at 112dB / mW, and in the Siberia 100, it is 94dB / mW.
  7. Minimum frequency. The bass is richer if the frequency is lower. SteelSeries Siberia 100 headphones boast 20Hz, but in Siberia 200, it is lower - 10Hz.
  8. Maximum frequency. A higher frequency makes the sound richer and clearer. Here it is clearly superior to the Siberia 200 with an indicator of 28000Hz, and in the Siberia 100 - 20000Hz.
  9. The capacity of the driver unit. This indicator affects the power of low bass, the more it is, the better. The Siberia 200 is in the lead, as the block size is 50 mm, while the competitor has 40 mm.
It makes no sense to compare the rest of the characteristics, since they are practically the same for both models.

Pros and cons of SteelSeries Siberia 200 headphones

  • The headset is self-adjusting for a high degree of comfort.

SteelSeries Siberia 200 price and video review

The price of SteelSeries Siberia 200 gaming headphones in Russia is about 5000 rubles.

If the model in question is not compared with the SteelSeries Siberia V2 headphones, then we can safely talk only about some positive aspects of such a headset. Due to a fairly low price and a wide range of colors (7 colors), the device occupies a leading position in terms of cost, comfort and quality standards. For a pleasant gaming experience, the sound quality is quite decent, the clarity is high, and the bass is warm and low.

A video review of the device and its testing is presented below:
