Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge - Specifications. Quick review of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge S6 edge smartphone dimensions

Devices of the GALAXY S series have been known for almost their entire existence solely due to their advanced technical characteristics coupled with a moderate price, by flagship standards. And now the time for change has finally come: it seems that this year some manufacturers themselves will want to “circle” the GALAXY S6 Edge. But this device also costs more than others.

From the point of view of hardware, everything has also changed dramatically over time with the GALAXY S5, although the policy has remained the same: the new flagship gets the best, the most advanced. The S6 and S6 Edge smartphones boast a Quad HD display, the most new platform Exynos - 7420, the most advanced LPDDR4 RAM, support for LTE Cat. 6 and 16 megapixel camera. All in all, " full stuffing", all with the latest technology. Are the new flagships really that good? Let's try to answer this question after a detailed test.

The only major difference between the Samsung GALAXY S6 and S6 Edge is in the display and design: the first device has a completely standard screen, while the second one is curved on the sides. Otherwise, the devices are very similar to each other, but are not entirely identical. There is a slight difference in dimensions: the case thickness of the regular version is 6.8 millimeters, while the Edge is 7 millimeters. But the modification with a rounded display is a little lighter - 132 versus 138 grams. Finally, different batteries are used: 9.69 Wh (2550 mAh, 3.8 V) for the regular version and 9.88 Wh (2600 mAh, 3.8 V) for the Edge. Otherwise, the S6 and S6 Edge are identical in terms of technical stuffing.

⇡ Appearance and ergonomics

All Samsung devices are similar to each other in one way or another. They have similar body proportions, approximately the same corner radius, an elongated central key at the bottom of the front panel... in general, a Samsung smartphone has always been easy to recognize. The situation has not changed much: the appearance of the GALAXY S6/S6 Edge remains very characteristic - even if you see this couple for the first time, it will not be difficult for you to guess that this is a Samsung.

Nevertheless, the GALAXY S6/S6 Edge differs radically from its predecessors. So much so that, if we draw parallels, we can say: the S6 and S6 Edge are not even a “restyling”, they are a full-fledged new “body” for Samsung flagships. The company's designers and engineers finally abandoned the use of plastic in favor of metal and glass. This is perhaps the key difference between the S6/S6 Edge and its predecessors. The front and back panels of the device are covered protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass is relatively new, fourth generation. For the first time, by the way, it was used in the Samsung GALAXY Note 4 “phablet” - the company’s first production device with curved screen. The glass quite reliably protects the panels of the gadget from scratches and other minor damage.

The GALAXY S6 Edge is available in four colors: Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, White Pearl and the exclusive Green Emerald. Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to order the device in the branded green color in Russia. A black sapphire gadget came to us for testing. In our opinion, this is a very good color. The smartphone appears black, but when light hits it, a dark blue glow appears. In general, the phrase “dark blue metallic” characterizes this color much better and more accurately than “black sapphire”. It is worth considering that the “regular” GALAXY S6 has different body colors.

The Samsung GALAXY S6 Edge is a pleasure to hold in your hands. The gadget is quite convenient to operate with one hand: you don’t have to move it and hold it with the other - it’s good that Samsung decided not to increase the screen size compared to the GALAXY S5. Yes, the display here is 5.1-inch, which by modern standards is not so much. The device does not slip in your hands, although its panels are quite smooth. During operation, the palm somehow touches the “side” of the screen, but the gadget does not react at all to these false presses. They are probably blocked at the software level.

The layout of the controls and connectors is quite standard - plus or minus the same as the previous ones Samsung devices. Getting used to a smartphone is very easy. At the top of the front panel there is a front-facing camera lens, a 5-megapixel camera, an earpiece mesh, a proximity sensor optocoupler and an LED indicator.

Samsung GALAXY S6 Edge - front-facing, five-megapixel camera

At the bottom of the front panel there is an elongated Home key with a metal edge, which has a built-in biometric sensor. Next to it are two standard touch buttons equipped with switchable backlight - “Menu of open applications” and “Back”.

The thickness of the body here is by no means outstanding - seven millimeters (excluding the protruding lens rear camera). However, due to the tapering metal edge on the sides, a deceptive feeling is created that the smartphone is much thinner than stated.

The device's power key is located on the right side under the thumb, and the volume control buttons are on the left. The keys are metal, with a short and distinct stroke. The Nano-SIM SIM card tray is hidden at the top end, and next to it there is an infrared port for control household appliances.

The external speaker slot is located at the bottom end. Its placement is good - during operation it is not blocked by hand in any way. Next to it is a Micro-USB interface combined with a video output (MHL), as well as a universal 3.5 mm jack for connecting a wired headset.

On the back panel there is a main 16-megapixel camera lens along with an LED flash, as well as a heart rate sensor. The panel is quite easily soiled - it gets dirty quite quickly and very readily collects fingerprints. However, you can get rid of them using any cloth at hand. The body of the device is non-separable.

The South Korean manufacturer has announced an improved version of the curved flagship smartphone GalaxyS6edge –GalaxyS6edge+. He got a lot bigger screen. This can be seen from the comparison photo. But what other surprises did she give him? Samsung? Let's find out right now.

1 – size

The first thing that catches your eye when comparing two phones lying next to each other is the changed dimensions. New option GalaxyS6edge+ gained height and width, but at the same time was able to become a little narrower than the original version.

The full dimensions look like this: 154; 76; 6.9 mm GalaxyS6edge+ against142; 70.7 mm GalaxyS6edge.

2 – weight

Of course, this also affected the weight of the new device. The extended version now weighs 153 grams versus 132 for its predecessor.

3 – structure of the body and cover

Nothing has changed in the material of the body and lid. Still aluminum, still Gorilla Glass 4 on non-removable cover. It doesn’t happen that they suddenly start making a version marked + from something else. So the designers here relax quietly, enjoying a well-done previous job.

4 – color palette

The classic black and white body colors remain. Also, both options have gold. And in order to be at least somehow different, new phone with a curved display received a silver color, and the old one distinguishes it from the entire line Galaxy green.

5 – display

It is clearly visible that the new display has become much larger. More precisely, by 20 percent. 5.7 inches received GalaxyS6edge+. It's the size of a great phablet and a good replacement for a mini tablet. GalaxyS6edge has 5.1 inches, which is also good, but not so catchy.

But nothing has changed in screen resolution and display type. The QHD screen has 2560 by 1440 pixels. The display type is oleophobic, or AMOLED, as the buyer is more accustomed to seeing it on the product box. Only the pixel density per inch has changed. From 577 units to 518. That is, the picture has become less sharp, but this is hardly noticeable to the eye at this resolution.

Of course, there are also curved displays, which are commonly called “triple” displays. Samsung It also did not add support for the S Pen stylus, so that the model would not compete with the company’s other product, the Note 5 phablet.

6 – processor

The processor remains the same. For almost six months Samsung did not have time to release a more advanced chip than what we have Exynos 7420. This eight-core and 64-bit chip operates at 2.1 and 1.5 GHz and allows the battery to last much longer than its opponents.

7 – RAM

The update is that a new version received the maximum possible this moment for smartphones 4 GB RAM. The original version “only” has 3 GB. Multitasking support has become even better.

8 – internal memory

In order not to increase the cost of the extended version of the smartphone with a curved display, Samsung I had to abandon the 128 GB version for sale. Then it would cost almost the same as pointless branded phones. And the South Korean manufacturer prefers the phrase “advanced and affordable.” Micro SD memory card support was also not added. It will slow down the device as Samsung has switched to a new type of flash memory, which offers increased performance of the device.

9 – cameras

The cameras remain the same. 16 megapixels for the main camera, 5 megapixels for the front camera. Support for automatic digital stabilization is included.

10 – battery

The new height and width (even despite the thinner body) allowed Samsung to solve the main problem of the flagship - to install a more capacious battery. New smartphone received 3000 mAh, while the previous version had only 2600 mAh. A few extra hours of operation will not hurt the device.

The batteries are still non-removable and have the ability fast charging and support wireless charging.

11 – other

Both devices support instant mobile payments from the company – Samsung Mobile Pay. Both also still have a heart rate sensor. But the new phablet also received support for an additional qwerty keyboard from Blackberry company. The device clings to the body, and you can type quickly with both fingers if you miss the physical buttons on your phone.

12 – software

Latest version Android 5.1.1 installed on both smartphones running a proprietary shell from Samsung.

13 – release, price and withdrawal

The first version of the smartphone with a curved display on both sides entered the market in April 2015 and is offered at a price of $750. The extended version will appear at the end of August 2015 at a price of $800. For those for whom the difference of $50 does not matter (and for everyone else), we, of course, recommend the extended version. It has no disadvantages, except for the lack of a 128 GB option internal memory. And the huge display of this device can easily replace any tablet. And even the tablets that will come out next year cannot compare with GalaxyS6edge+ in terms of performance.

Last spring, the Korean giant Samsung presented to the admiring public a “for the rich” version of its flagship Galaxy smartphone S6, which differs from the base model by having a screen curved on the sides. The back side of the Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone is also covered with glass, only smooth. It looks stylish and unusual, and besides, the developers tried to make the most of the side: selected contacts are displayed on it, and when incoming call each of them is highlighted in its own color. On the side, news from the information feed is displayed, and in night mode, a clock is displayed. At the bottom of the front panel there is a fingerprint sensor that unlocks the phone. In general, stylish, unusual, modern... However, unfortunately, a smartphone based on its merits has not yet been invented.

Galaxy S6 Edge - fast and smart

The Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone is powered by SoC (system on a chip) Exynos 7420, created by Samsung developers. This chipset is made using 14 nm technology and is considered by many analysts to be the most powerful mobile processor currently. The chipset contains 4 ARM Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and 4 ARM Cortex-A53 cores at 1.5 GHz. The graphics are controlled by the Mali T760 video accelerator, also part of the SoC. The transition to 14nm technology has made it possible to reduce processor power consumption while increasing performance, which, of course, affects the battery life of a mobile device.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone has 3 GB of LPDDR4 memory installed. This modification of DDR SDRAM also operates at reduced supply voltage. The permanent memory, depending on the model, is 32, 64 or 128 GB, while the design of the smartphone does not provide a slot for a memory card. An alternative is USB OTG support, so you can connect a flash drive to your smartphone.

Galaxy S6 Edge is controlled by OS Android 5.0 with installed user interface TouchWiz from Samsung. Among many useful functions shell, you can note the energy-saving mode, privacy mode, work in 2 windows, etc. The proprietary health tracking program S Health controls the heart rate sensor located next to the main camera. The Smart Switch data transfer service allows you to transfer any information from devices running iOS, Windows, or Blackberry to Samsung devices.

Now the Galaxy S6 Edge is the fastest smartphone, ahead of its closest competitors Meizu MX4 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 according to AnTuTu test results. There is no slowdown when working with heavy applications, watching videos or surfing the web.

Galaxy S6 Edge: display and cameras

The Galaxy S6 Edge's 5.1" 2560-1440 touchscreen features Super AMOLED technology, which delivers full viewing angles, faster response times, greater color range and thinner screens than LCDs. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 4, which, according to the developers, has an 80% chance of remaining intact when dropped on a hard, rough surface such as asphalt or concrete.

Surprisingly high image quality on the display is the main difference between the Galaxy S6 Edge and its competitors. With a viewing angle of 180 degrees. Horizontally and vertically, colors are not inverted and retain brightness and contrast.

The light sensor controls automatic picture brightness adjustment. You can manually change this parameter in the corresponding menu item. In the light, the screen has almost no glare, and there is enough brightness to spare for the picture to be clearly visible on a sunny day.

The front 5-megapixel camera of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is activated by an open palm gesture. A heart rate sensor is used for selfies. The 16 MP main camera is equipped with an LED flash, tracking autofocus and optical stabilization. The camera can shoot in resolutions up to 4K (UHD), and at a frame rate of 69 fps - 1920-1080 (Full HD). Both pictures and videos are different high quality worthy of a decent camera.

Communications Galaxy S6 Edge

A nanoSIM phone card is installed in a plastic tray located at the top end Samsung smartphone Galaxy S6 Edge. The tray is called up by pressing a paper clip included in the delivery set on the recessed button. The smartphone works confidently in 2G/3G/4G LTE networks. There is support for NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11n/ac, HT80 MIMO and Wi-Fi Direct. The navigation module works with GPS, Russian GLONASS and Chinese Beidou (BDS).

Galaxy S6 Edge battery

The capacity of the built-in battery is 2600 mAh, which is not at all a special achievement for a smartphone of this configuration. However, the charge lasts for 8-11 hours at full load: watching videos, web surfing, talking, data transfer. A special advantage of the battery is its high-speed charging: 1-2 hours until fully charged. Wireless charging is supported.

Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone: design versus ergonomics

We have to admit that in this model ergonomics were sacrificed for design. On the one hand, the dimensions of the smartphone allow it to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand. On the other hand, the thumb fits accurately on the fingerprint recognition sensor only for those with small hands; others will have to aim at the button for the device to recognize its owner.

The smooth glass that covers the smartphone on both sides does not allow you to hold the device securely in your hands, and the metal edging at the junction of the front and back panels causes considerable discomfort when making calls outside in winter. The solution may be a protective case, but then all the beauty of the smartphone will be hidden. What on earth did they pay for?

Positioning

Samsung has never sought to create expensive versions of its flagships; the first experiment can be considered the Note EDGE, which was released in tandem with the regular Note 4. This was a reconnaissance in force, in which they tried to determine how much demand there would be for an exact copy of the flagship with a curved edge, which does not provide , by and large, no real benefits, scenarios for working with such a screen have not yet been invented. Just look at the ruler that was placed on this bend - a flight of fancy, but not a real necessity.

Unexpectedly, it turned out that the Note EDGE became popular, often preferred over the Note 4. Buyers of this device did not choose it for its unique technical feature, but rather for its cost, which was the maximum for such devices. That is, the image component of the price played a role here, but the bending of the screen seemed to confirm it. It must be said that none of the manufacturers made such devices, so there was a certain novelty in this. For Samsung, this provided an increase in profits without any special costs, and at the same time the loyalty of the audience who wanted to stand out. A sort of phone option for showing off.

The mass flagship S6 decided to do exactly the same and released the EDGE version, rounding the screen on both sides, but not doing it so clearly. However, this was enough for the model to be perceived completely differently. If S6 is often called a copy of the iPhone 6, then no one says this about EDGE; moreover, it is called original. Let me remind you that the only difference is in the curvature of the screen on both sides. Intentionally or unwittingly, the device turned out to be unusual, there are no analogues on the market, and that means it will attract attention. It will be chosen by those who are not limited in funds, looking for a convenient model in order to work, and at the same time get an image effect.

Inside Samsung, until the last moment, they could not decide on the price positioning of EDGE: should the gap be the same as in the case of Note models, or smaller? The pragmatic approach apparently wins, the difference will be 5 thousand rubles. As you understand, the cost of EDGE is higher. In my opinion, EDGE may well lay claim to the title of a unique device, which is rare by today's standards. And for those who don’t want to be like others, this is a truly interesting model. It will not suit everyone, moreover, it cannot be considered mass, however, it is not positioned as such. But for its consumer this device will be extremely pleasant and will provide something that other models cannot.

Design, dimensions, control elements

The phone turned out to be compact for such a screen diagonal, its dimensions are 142.1x70.1x7 mm, weight - 132 grams (for comparison, S6 - 143.4x70.5x6.8 mm, 138 grams). Fits well in the hand and does not slip.

The side frame and back wall are made of metal, special attention was paid to the strength characteristics, it cannot be bent even with great effort. This was especially emphasized at the presentation. Since Samsung decided that the model should pamper the consumer with variety, they presented it in many colors. To achieve this, the back wall is painted over and covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Exactly the same glass covers the front surface. To avoid creating confusion, Samsung calls the glass fourth generation, but in fact, it differs from what other manufacturers get (fewer scratches, more drop resistance, which is important with such a screen). You can call this piece of glass Gorilla Glass 4+, although this name will be very arbitrary.

Each color has a metallic look due to the glass; they play well in the sun. Just like on Sony devices, hand marks remain on the glass; it is easily soiled, but not excessively so. In bright light the marks are almost invisible, but in the room they become noticeable.

Unlike the S6, you can feel the cut of the body in your hand; it is sharp. Some may not like it, while others may not pay any attention to it. For aesthetes, the fact that the camera on the back surface protrudes a little over a millimeter will also be an irritation; it was not made flush with the glass.

Compared to Galaxy S6

Compared to Galaxy S5

Compared to Sony Xperia Z3

The SIM card tray is located at the top end, there is also an IR port for controlling household appliances and a microphone, and another microphone is located at the bottom end. There is also a microUSB connector (USB 2.0), 3.5 mm for a headset or headphones, and a speaker output. The power button is on the right side, the volume keys are on the left.

On the back surface, in addition to the flash, there is a heart rate sensor; it also performs a number of other functions; more about this in the section about S Health. There is a physical button on the front panel, it contains a fingerprint sensor (you can unlock the device by placing your finger, no need to swipe it). There are also two touch keys, everything is familiar to other devices from Samsung. There is a proximity sensor above the screen, as well as front-camera 5 megapixels.

One of the branded accessories is a plastic case, which is made in metallic style. My device is green and looks pretty good.

The case is quite easily soiled, despite the fact that an oleophobic coating was added to it. It will have to be wiped down frequently, and this may not be suitable for some. One of the advantages I would like to note is that the phone in the case fits better in the hand, the edges do not cut into it. The downside is that you lose the original look of the device, it becomes difficult to distinguish the S6 from the S6 EDGE, and the side edges are covered, becoming non-functional or of limited use.

The case recognizes your taps (more precisely, the screen), so you can answer calls, view messages, control music, and so on. This is quite convenient, since you do not need to open the lid, you see all the messages in front of you.

The build quality of the device is excellent, there can be no complaints. The phone is much stronger than similar devices from Sony, and outperforms the iPhone 6, which often cracks the glass after a slight fall (it has regular tempered glass). Here, durability is brought to the fore, the device is wearable.

Display

Screen 5.1 inches diagonal, SuperAMOLED, 577 ppi, 2560x1440 pixels, automatic brightness adjustment. This is one of best screens from Samsung, it traditionally has customizable colors - from bright and sometimes acidic to muted. Here everyone will choose their own option, but the main thing is that, according to reviews from professionals testing screens in various devices, AMOLED matrices in previous models have already become very accurate in terms of color reproduction and behavior in the sun. In this device, the quality of the screen has increased even more, the brightness of the backlight has been improved (everything is readable in the sun with a bang).

The high density of dots per inch makes the picture smooth, but you won’t be able to tell the difference with previous models by eye. Other characteristics (contrast, brightness, etc.) come to the fore.

The screen curvature in the EDGE is not very large, it is noticeably less than in the same Note EDGE. And, as a result, it is more comfortable, all the main menus are presented on the entire surface of the screen, it does not go to waste.

In life, the bend is beautiful, but not at all practical. So, on the street the sun always refracts the left side and the picture glares and is not entirely visible.

When working in a browser, the beginning of the address line falls exactly on the left corner, making it difficult to click and get to the right place. There are quite a lot of such “little things”, the interface has not been redesigned to fit the screen in any way, it is standard, and this has its price - reduced ergonomics.

Communication capabilities

If you can imagine that a device has all possible technologies, then this is the case with the S6/S6 EDGE. I’ll just list them all: Wi-Fi: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), HT80 MIMO(2x2) 620Mbps, Dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, Mobile hotspot, Bluetooth®: v4. 1, A2DP, LE, apt-X, ANT+, USB 2.0, NFC, IR port for controlling household appliances.

Memory, RAM, performance

Telephone - full copy S6, so I’ll repeat what was said in the review of that device.

The device has 3 GB of RAM (LDPPR4), which is the maximum for today throughput at 3.2 GB/s (64 bit). The built-in memory capacity may vary - 32, 64 and 128 GB. The memory type is UFS 2.0, which also provides maximum write and read speeds; it is actually an SSD array. The speed of the memory subsystem is such that no other device yet has comparable characteristics.

Exynos 7420 chipset belongs to to the last generation, made at 14 nm. Technically, this is an 8-core solution, 4 Cortex-A53 cores, 4 Cortex A57 cores. Graphics core– Mali T-760, but its updated version compared to Note 4 (more frequency, etc.). This is also the most fast processor of the existing ones, which, together with the memory, makes this device very fast. In life, he just flies, there are no brakes at all (Android 5 also contributes to this). During my time with the phone, I did not experience any slowdowns or application crashes.

And here's what the results look like in synthetic tests. These are the best values possible for devices of this kind. With performance in synthetic tests, everything is more or less clear, see the values below.

More interesting is how the device behaves in three-dimensional tests, that is, how predisposed it is to graphics, because the MALI graphics processor has always been inferior similar solutions from Qualcomm, and even more so from NVidia. Increased frequency, eight cores - all this, in theory, should contribute to performance, but on the other side there is an increased screen resolution.

There are other tests, we present their values here.

But it was interesting to see how, for example, Epic Citadel is going. In the initial test on an almost clean device, the result was about 60 frames per second.

But then, when I tried to repeat it, it turned out that the program produces, at best, 50 frames, and after heating, even 30 frames. This is one of the weakest points of the Galaxy S6 in terms of performance - 3D graphics and how repeatable the result you get.

Having looked at the 3D toys, I can say that the range of results in Dead Trigger 2, NOVA3, Asphalt 8, Real Racing 3 is from 30 to 60 frames per second. In some games the level stays at 60 almost constantly, in some it is closer to 30. But this is with maximum settings for textures, resolution, and so on. Even taking this into account, you as a user will not see any problems in the game, since stuttering at 30 frames per second simply does not exist. And this is the lowest value.

For those who want to approach performance in a straightforward and stupid way, I recommend that you definitely compare the gaming component in GTA, since this game is not optimized for MALI graphics, does not load the best textures and is guaranteed to have problems with graphics display. In my opinion, this is a flaw in the game and a lack of optimization for a specific platform, but as an example of “disadvantages” it will do. The question in 3D games today is simply which platform they are optimized for and how well. The same solutions from NVidia tear everyone apart in terms of 3D performance and graphics rendering quality, but they are not popular. Apparently, not everyone needs this.

Battery

The built-in battery has a capacity of 2600 mAh (2550 mAh in S6), operating time is approximately a full working day under load. This is about 2 and a half hours of screen operation, data transfer in 4G. The video device plays for 11 hours.

The question that worries many is whether the battery is dead or not? While I don’t have an obvious answer to this, I need to work with the device and see what comes out. The phone has fast charging, you can fully charge it in an hour, which is not bad. It also supports several wireless charging formats, everything is built into the case, you don’t need to buy anything additional. But I don’t think this option will be in demand by many buyers.

One of the nice things to note is that fast charging of the battery is supported - it takes one hour. If you use a regular 2A charger, the battery charging time will be 2 hours. The phone has built-in wireless charging that supports several formats, meaning you can buy a branded device or any other. I had a Lumia charger (DT-601, Qi standard) on hand; it charges the device perfectly.

You shouldn't expect this model to last as long as the Note 4. But the result turned out to be slightly higher than that of the iPhone 6 with the same load (number of calls, data transferred). The difference is almost imperceptible; we can say that these devices live for the same time. Again, for most people this will be full time.

Camera

A separate detailed and extensive material is devoted to a description of the camera and all its capabilities.

Working with a side face

Unlike Note EDGE, the ideology of the side edge has changed slightly. First, you can choose where the information will be displayed, on the left side of the screen or on the right. Moreover, I note that you cannot turn the picture 180 degrees. The opportunity to put your wallpaper on this strip has disappeared; it is very narrow. By and large, there is only a night mode, which displays the time and temperature from the weather forecast, you can set the interval up to 12 hours when this information is shown.

You can display the information flow, these are news headlines that will crawl to the side. Not a very necessary option. The main settings revolve around the five contacts you can add to your sidebar. Each contact has its own color. If events are missed, the device can highlight the edge with this color, that is, you see what happened and know who called or wrote to you. The trick is not too sophisticated, but it works quite well in practice. Does it make this device very different from the same S6? Definitely not, they are approximately the same and are perceived at the same level.

Software features – Android 5.x and TouchWiz

In order not to repeat myself, I refer you to the detailed Galaxy review S6, where all aspects of the menu operation and device functions are discussed in detail.

Additional accessories for Galaxy S6/S6 EDGE

For several years now, Samsung has been creating the widest possible range of accessories for its flagships. Starting with 6, the set comes with headphones of a new design, which are built similarly to Level In, provide good sound and are noticeably better than the previous model.

In terms of cooperation with famous brands, I would like to mention cases from Burton, protective cases with crystals from Swarovski, leather covers from Montblanc, women's handbag cases from Rebecca Minkoff, cases painted by Britto. These accessories are almost impossible to find on the market; their cost is very high.

Now let's take a look standard set accessories, they are completely the same for the two models, only the article number and color schemes differ. Wireless charging is available in two colors – white and dark gray. I recommend taking a dark color, since the rubber insert at the top, which prevents the phone from sliding, gets dirty very quickly on white. A dark color is more practical.

The QI 1.1 standard is supported (backwards compatible with 1.0), charging speed is about 4-5 hours, which is typical for such devices. Price charger in Russia will be 3,490 rubles. The fast charger included in the kit costs 2,000 rubles if you buy it separately, so you shouldn’t lose it. The same price applies to a car charger that supports Quick Charge technology.

A regular transparent bumper covering the back of the phone will cost 2,590 rubles.

But the opaque cover can be of almost any color, it is of good quality, but it also needs to be matched to the color of the phone so that they match. Its price is 2,290 rubles.

The book case is also available in different colors, the price is 2,990 rubles; these types of cases make the device very thick.

The S View Cover with a window has become very popular. Different fabric or leather, a huge number of colors - all together create an alternative. You can activate the camera, enable dialing of favorite numbers, listen to music, open the quick shortcuts panel - the latter was previously unavailable. In the video I show how this case works, it's worth watching. But the price is steep - 4,490 rubles.

The mirrored book case can also be selected in different colors, it has an NFC tag, so Chinese craftsmen will not do anything like that. When closed, you can answer calls, reject messages and reminders. There is no need to open the device.

You can see how all these accessories work in our video.

Impression

I was pleasantly surprised by the loudness of the Samsung S6 speaker, despite the fact that there is only one speaker and is located at the end - it is very clear and loud, the device is clearly audible in different conditions. In the video I showed the differences with the S5, they are noticeable to the naked eye. We can say that the sound is one of the loudest and most pleasant devices from the company. The vibration alert is average in strength, there are no achievements here.

The phone's connection quality is not satisfactory in any way. I tried to find differences from my Note 4, but could not find them. The quality of work in LTE is also flawless; I noticed that the phone is better able to connect to Wi-Fi networks than the Note 4. Subjectively, it seemed that in general the quality of communication was a little better.

I like how the one touch fingerprint works, you can watch this feature in the video.

The speed of launching the camera from any menu is less than a second. Just press the Home key twice. And it's convenient. The camera is excellent and comparable to the Note 4, which I consider (and not only me) the best device on the market in this regard.

Among the advantages of S6 EDGE, I note unusual design, which will become an argument in its favor for many people. I was confused by the bend, and it seemed like there was a waste of space, but in reality you quickly get used to it, the inconvenience is tolerable and does not irritate you in everyday use. Although the S6 is noticeably better in terms of ergonomics.

The TouchWiz shell has become visually simpler, while maintaining its main features. I can’t say that I like it one hundred percent, but it has the right to life and is quite convenient in daily work. The contacts on the side are also convenient, although this is an additional feature, you can safely not use it. I really liked the outer case, which transforms the device and makes it more interesting. True, the appearance is lost, and this will not suit many.

After getting to know each other more closely, I have no doubt that if I choose between the S6 and S6 EDGE, I will most likely choose the second device, it turned out to be more interesting. The difference in cost for Russia is 5 thousand rubles, that is, the S6 EDGE will cost up to 54,990 rubles. In the new price realities, this is a lot, and you definitely shouldn’t expect huge sales. But they will be, just like in Europe and other countries of the world.

The S6 EDGE has its own unique design feature; this device has no analogues, and this is a strong argument in its favor. I repeat that ergonomics suffer a little, but this is not so critical, although the S6 is more convenient. Personally, I am torn between the two of these models, and if above I said that I would most likely choose the S6 EDGE, then after a couple of paragraphs I think that maybe it’s worth taking the regular S6.
