It is not an easy task for a manufacturer to create a tablet with an unusual and memorable design, and in Acer tablets this solution is the most successful among Windows devices from other companies. Design and functionality of an Acer tablet
Acer turned out to be larger than other tablets on Windows 8 due to the margins protruding around the display by a centimeter in each direction, but this is somewhat offset by the metal coming to the front side and visually the tablet looks smaller than the actual size. An active Windows button is built into this aluminum strip, and you can see a fairly thick damper that protects the display from direct contact with metal. The kit comes with an adapter for connecting MicroHDMI and a full-size D-Sub connector. So if you need to connect to video equipment, you can be calm, there will be no problems.
The main area of the upper part of the tablet is occupied by ventilation holes. Most likely, the cooling system is similar to the cooling of the Aspire S7 ultrabooks, which consists of two fans working in parallel, one for intake and the other for exhaust.
Noise and sound of an Acer tablet
The noise level of such a system is quite low, but still there, while Windows tablets based on the Atom processor are completely devoid of mechanical parts in the cooling system and therefore completely silent.
There are two speakers on the bottom side of the case. Although the sound quality leaves much to be desired, it is loud enough if the tablet is correctly oriented.
The difficulty with the speakers lies in the fact that the Iconia W700 has a decent weight and for a long time to hold it in your hands, like mobile phone if it doesn’t work out, you have to use something as a support and most often your body. After all, if you put the tablet on your knees or put it on your stomach, then the speakers will be obscured and the sound practically sells. It remains to hold it with your palms underneath to reflect the sound, but the easiest way is not to mess around with this problem and buy headphones.
Acer tablet cameras
There are two cameras in this model. The first is located on the front panel with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels and is unlikely to be useful for anything other than video calls. The resolution of the second camera is 5 megapixels, it is located on the back of the tablet and does not have a flash.

Additionally, the Acer Iconia W700 comes with several accessories. Firstly, it is a keyboard that communicates with the tablet via Bluetooth and thus leaves the USB port free. The former is equipped with a 64 GB drive and a Core i3-2365M processor limited to 1.4 GHz, as this is a previous generation processor and does not support Turbo Boost. The second option is equipped with a 128 GB SSD and a Core i5-3317U processor from the Intel line. The standard frequency of such a processor is 1.7 GHz, but in Turbo Boost mode, overclocking to 2.6 GHz is possible. We tested a tablet of exactly this configuration. Both modifications are equipped with non-replaceable 4 GB DDR-1333 memory. Graphic card integrated in the tablet, in the first version it is Intel HD 3000 and more powerful HD in the second.

And after examining the complete accessories, it immediately becomes clear that this is not such a mobile device. Pleasant to the touch monolithic body is made of unpainted aluminum, the appearance of scratches on it (from rings, for example) is a matter of time. The shape of the Acer Iconia Tab W700 differs from other tablets only in thickness, which is equal to the thickness of the bottom Macbook Pro. And the rest - the same rectangle with smoothed corners. Cameras, photo and video
I would very much like to see a person who would be comfortable using the camera of this device. It's not that there are any serious flaws in it, just shooting on a tablet is already inconvenient, because this one is also heavy. But back to our Iconia Tab. There are two cameras - webcam and main. The front camera is up to 2 megapixels, but it is noisy. Although it should be enough for video communication. The main camera of 5 megapixels already sounds good, but looks so-so. It does not cause much enthusiasm and resembles the cameras of cheap smartphones that are not the first freshness. But do not forget that this is a camera in a tablet, which few people use. Personally, I have never used the camera in the tablet (pampering in the first couple of days of use does not count). In good light, the photo can turn out to be watchable, but with video it’s not very strong (although recording in 1080p, but 10 frames per second spoil everything). So for show there are cameras, there are two of them, and, in principle, under certain conditions they can be useful.
Hardware, software and battery

Unfortunately, I have no way to compare with the Microsoft Surface Pro, which, by the way, has exactly the same production capacity, but according to the specialized forums, the Acer Iconia Tab W700 will live a couple of hours longer. Personally, for a day of using the tablet in Internet browsing mode, watching videos and other undemanding tasks, I managed to land 65% of the battery charge. And I absolutely did not expect that he would last so long without an outlet. In other words, it should be enough for a working day, but if you have stressful tasks in your plans, then charging will definitely not hurt.

Tablet acoustics are two built-in speakers. They are located on the bottom panel of the tablet. Unfortunately, the tablet does not have a card reader, so it will not be possible to increase the amount of internal memory. Unless you replace the SSD with a more capacious one. However, there is a package ICONIA W700-53314G12as with 128 GB, so you can consider this option.
Ports and communications
There are no ports on the right side of the Acer ICONIA W700 tablet. Here you can see the audio jack, as well as two buttons: power and volume.On the left there is Micro-HDMI, which allows you to connect the tablet to an external display and show, for example, a presentation (the kit includes a Micro-HDMI-VGA adapter). The left side also has a charging slot and a full-sized USB 3.0.
Basically one USB port should be enough, however, if you are going to connect a docking station, then it should be free. The docking station adds three high-speed USB 3.0 standards - enough for a flash drive, mouse or external hard drive. Although, if analyzed as a whole, no significant additions are provided here, but it would be nice to see the keyboard, network port or built-in battery (as in W510).
By the way, the dock stand itself looks like a bracket. The tablet is inserted into it with right side so that the dock covers the gadget on the right and bottom.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the angle, but the detachable stand on the docking station can be inserted so that the Tablet PC is in portrait or landscape (70 or 20 degree tilt) orientation.
As for the upper edge of the tablet, there are ventilation grilles and a slider on it, which blocks the automatic rotation of the display. Air enters the tablet through the left hole, and exits through the right hole.
And below you can see the speakers speaker system. It is interesting that special holes are provided for them in the docking station so that nothing interferes with the outgoing sound. By the way, a place has been cut out in the dock for windows keys which simplifies the operation of the device.
As you can see, there is no card reader on any of the sides, which excludes an increase in the amount of internal memory using a microSD card.
Among the communications of the Acer W700 tablet there is not only Wi-Fi 802.11a / b / g / n, but also Bluetooth, but there is no 3G module. The sensors include an accelerometer and a gyroscope.
Battery
The tablet is equipped with a 3-segment lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 4850 mAh. The non-removable battery is charged by a 65-watt power supply for 4 hours. 1. The pre-installed version of the system from Acer is terrible. Installed a clean Win 8 Pro x64.
2. The screen resolution is good, but in desktop mode it is difficult to do anything with your fingers.
3. Very cropped keyboard. Not enough F-row, many actions need Fn, Windows buttons 8 for some reason are duplicated on Fn + number, although they can be called with the usual Win + C, Win + I, etc.
4. The idea of a docking station is not as cool as I thought before buying, plus the ports are hidden far back. It also does not allow the use of wide microHDMI adapters.
