What you need to download the mod. Minecraft how to install mods. Removing an extra file

Website Version: - Updated: 24 January 2018

Installing mods into games can be challenging. But in World of Tanks, the developers initially added support for custom modifications, therefore, in the game folder, there is a special folder for mods called res_mods, which is responsible for modifications.

The theory of how mods work

Let's take a look at how it all works in Wot. First, the game loads all the resources from the res folder, which contains the game files such as sound, textures, models, scripts and much more. It is in World of Tanks that all this is packed into archives so that the game loads a little faster. In fact, we can take the file we need from there (for example, the skin of a tank) and change it. Then we put it back, replacing the existing file. And everything will work. But this method is inconvenient, firstly, we would have to save the original files in case nothing works, and secondly, when there are a lot of mods, we will not be able to delete all this, because we need to remember what and where we threw it.

This is why the res_mods folder exists, after the game has loaded files from the res folder, it loads the files from res_mods, and if there is a file that has already been loaded from the res folder, then the game will take the last option, that is, our modified one from the res_mods folder ... In such a convenient way, everything is done in World of Tanks.

How to install mods in World of Tanks?

On this moment, in World of Tanks there are two folders for modifications. The first is mods, it appeared recently and is needed for mods that are packed and have the .wotmods format. The second folder was almost from the very beginning, this is res_mods, it is needed for unpacked mods.

Both of these folders, inside themselves contain folders with the number of the current version of the game, now it is 1.5.0.0, and the folders of older versions can simply be deleted so that they do not interfere.

On our site, in each mod, we write how to install it. But often we post modifications together with the necessary folders and therefore, all that is needed is to open the downloaded archive and copy (or unpack or move the contents with the mouse, this is the same thing) to the folder where you have World of Tanks installed.

Note: If during the installation of the game you did not change anything, then the tanks were installed in C: \\ Games \ World_of_Tanks. Actually, this is the folder with the game.

Always read the description for the mod, we ALWAYS write how exactly to install this or that mod. Below we provide a list of possible installations.

Modification installation options

  • Unpack the archive into the World of Tanks folder - Everything is simple here, open the downloaded archive, select everything that is there with the mouse and transfer it to the folder with the installed game.
  • Copy the mods folder (or res_mods) to the World of Tanks folder - Everything is the same as in the previous version, but when it is written this way, then perhaps there are more folders in the archive, for example, with fonts or additional mod options, so if you copy everything at once then nothing will work.
  • Unpack the archive into the World of Tanks \ mods \ 1.5.0.0 folder (or World of Tanks \ res_mods \ 1.5.0.0) - Almost the same as before, but now after going into the game folder, you need to go further into mods (or res_mods) , and then in 1.5.0.0 and copy the contents of the downloaded archive there.
  • Install fonts - It's simple, there is a folder in the archive with the name "font", go into it, then click on each file 2 times, and after the font has opened, click "install". Everything. You don't need to copy anything anywhere.
  • Run the installer (or Run the program) - In this case, these are usually either programs or modpacks with installers. There is no need to copy anything, just run double click that's all.

Removing World of Tanks Mods

To uninstall a specific mod, you need to know what files were installed, and just delete them. And to remove ALL mods from tanks, you just need to clear the mods / 1.5.0.0 and res_mods / 1.5.0.0 folders. But in no case delete the 1.5.0.0 folders themselves, otherwise the game will simply not start.

Mod file

So, if you already have on your computer required files modifications, then you need to continue your training. The fact is that it is very important to know how to download mods for "Minecraft", but this is not all that you have to learn. Now you need to deal directly with the installation process itself, and for this, first of all, you need to find where the file responsible for the mods is located. Everything is not as difficult as you might think - this file is called Minecraft.jar, so you can easily find it using the search function. After that, you will need to use the archiver. Despite the fact that this file has a .jar extension, it is an archive, so you will need to unpack it to continue working with it. As you can see, downloading mods for "Minecraft 1.5.2" is only the simplest and most uncomplicated part of the whole large and complex process.

Removing an extra file

Now that the file is unpacked, and you know how to download mods for "Minecraft 1.7.2", as well as for other versions, you need to somehow connect both parts of the process. But first you have to remove the obstacle that might prevent you from doing this. In the folder that will appear as a result of unpacking the archive, you can find the META-INF file, which with a huge percentage of probability will prevent you from installing the modification. More precisely, you can install it, but you won't be able to start it, so the first thing you need to do is delete this file. Only when this is done can you move on to the final part of learning how to download mods and install them.

Installing the mod

So, all the preparations are over - you already know how to download mods correctly, how to find and unpack the required archive, how to prepare it for installing the modification. If you wish, you can do before this backup file Minecraft.jar so that in case of any failure, you can restore everything to its original form without incurring serious losses. If everything went well, then you just have to re-zip Minecraft.jar, and then calmly launch the game. "Minecraft Forge"

However, it should be noted that some modifications are not installed manually, but with the help of special program Minecraft Forge. This is a software that opens the world of modifications for gamers - with its help you can not only install mods, but also create them yourself. In fact, this is a fairly simple process - just very, very painstaking, and also time-consuming. So you can decide for yourself whether you want to spend your time creating the mod - or rather play something that someone has already created for you.

Installing the mod via "Minecraft Forge"
