Windows 8.1 cannot be installed. How to solve the error "The installer could not create a new or find an existing system partition"

If you want to install any of the modern versions operating systems Whether it is Windows 10 or Windows 7, users have problems that drive them into a stupor. Here is an example of such a problem.

You insert a disk into a floppy drive, or an installation flash drive into a USB connector, boot from them and see the boot of a particular system. Next, the installer window appears, where we must select the disk for Windows installations... There are some parameters that we could use, but we don't need them now. As soon as we press the "Next" button to start the installation of Windows, the worst happens - an error "The installer was unable to create a new or find an existing system partition.".

There is an insanely simple way to fix it on the Internet. It is as follows: you received an error and immediately remove the USB flash drive or disk, and then close the installer by clicking on the cross. Then we run the installation again, try to install the Windows we need, get the same error, close it. Now we need to re-insert the installation flash drive or disk and start installing Windows.

Unfortunately, this method, described just above, no longer helps, but there is another one.

In order not to engage in such nonsense as plugging a USB flash drive, restarting something, etc., there is more effective method... Its essence is that you need to transfer files from the USB flash drive on which Windows is located to the disk or partition where you were going to install it. In other words, we make the future system partition installation disc, on which we will install Windows. Now let's get down to practice.

How do I resolve the error "Setup was unable to create a new or find an existing system partition"?

Quick and easy, you just need to carefully read the instructions from this article.

  • Insert it into your computer and boot from it;
  • When a window with a disk selection appears, press the keys Shift + F10, to open a command line;
  • The command line now uses disk utility DISKPART, then write the command: list disk... This command shows all drives connected to the computer. Looking for in the list desired disk(you can navigate by volume) and remember the number;
  • select disk = 0... With this command, we select the disk. The number 0 is the number of the wild from the previous command, you may have a different one.

When choosing a drive, be very careful, I recommend disabling other hard drives so that there will be no problems later.

  • Then we execute the command create partition primary size = XXXXX... In the place "XXXXX" you must enter the size of the system disk on which you will install Windows. In other words, a new section will be created;
  • select partition = 1... Displays the partition of the drive we have selected;
  • active... The selected section becomes active;
  • format fs = ntfs quick... This command will quickly format the disk to file system NTFS;
  • assign... This command will assign a letter to the section, if it is not specified independently, then a free next letter will be selected;
  • exit... Exit the DISKPART utility.

So, we have completed all the necessary commands to create a partition for installing Windows, but now we need to transfer the files from the flash drive to this partition.

  • Open the command line again. You need to find out what letter your USB flash drive with Windows is. Using the cd command. That is, on the command line, you must enter, for example, "Cd e:", where e: - letter installation flash drive. ;
  • You are in the directory of the flash drive. We register a command to copy files to system disk: xcopy e: c: / e / h / k;
  • You need to go to the boot directory already on the partition itself, not a USB flash drive: cd boot;
  • We will use the bootsect command to create the boot code on the system drive: bootsect / nt60 c:... Where c: - system drive, be careful, you may have a different letter;
  • We made a system partition boot disk... Now you can remove the USB flash drive, restart your computer and install Windows on the same disk. After installation, you can delete the installation files.

After installing Windows and loading it, you need to tweak a few things.

  • Open the command line on behalf of the administrator;
  • We register the command bcdedit;
  • Among the command results, find the line Windows Setup, where we copy identifier;
  • Next, we write the command bcdedit / delete (identifier).

Now you can use Windows without any problems.

Additional option

Alternatively, to fix this error, you can use Boot Menu if this feature is supported. When you insert a USB flash drive, it may come first in the order of the disks, or you did it yourself, because of this, Windows wants to write the MBR table not to the disk we need, but to the USB flash drive, but nothing comes out, since it is used you. Perhaps this is the reason for the appearance of the above error.

To solve it, you can put the disk that will be the system one in the BIOS in the first place, if it is not already there, then go to the Boot Menu (not in the BIOS), and just boot from the installation flash drive. Of course, it's not a fact that this method will help, but the attempt is not torture, you will not lose anything from this. The Boot Menu might look like this:

This manual will go over in detail all stages of installing Windows 8.1 on a computer or laptop. It's about a clean install, not about.

In order to install Windows 8.1, you need a disc with a system or bootable USB drive with the system, well, or at least ISO image with OS.

After rebooting, the installation will continue. First, you will be asked to enter your product key (if you have not entered one earlier). You can click Skip here, but keep in mind that you still have to activate Windows 8.1 when finished.

The next step is to choose a color scheme and specify a computer name (it will be used, for example, when the computer is connected to the network, in your Live ID account, etc.)

On the next screen you will be prompted to install the standard Windows options 8.1, or customize them as you wish. This is up to you. Personally, I usually leave the standard ones, and after the OS is installed, I customize it in accordance with my wishes.

The last thing you need to do is enter the username and password (password is optional) for the local account. If the computer is connected to the Internet, then by default you will be prompted to create account Microsoft Live ID or enter the data of an existing one - address Email and password.

After all of the above is done, it remains to wait a little and after a short time you will see the initial Windows screen 8.1, and at the beginning of work - some tips that will help you get up to speed faster.

Want to upgrade to Windows 8.1, but Windows Store Can't see this update? Getting installation errors? Or does the update get stuck at some point during installation? Although Microsoft has tried to accommodate absolutely everything, bugs and other problems are always inevitable, especially when millions of users want to install software.

If you are using Windows 8 or Windows RT and are having trouble finding an update in the Windows Store, you probably need to install the update KB2871389... To see if you have this update installed: go to Control Panel, click on System and Security, and then select Center windows updates". Next, try to find this update in the update log.

You can also visit this page on the Microsoft website to download an update that prepares your system for a successful upgrade to Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1. (You will also find the instructions on the web page).

If you have the KB2871389 update installed but still can't see Windows 8.1 in the Windows Store, try making it show you the update. To do this, open your browser Internet Explorer and click on this link: ms-windows-store: WindowsUpgrade(that is what helped me). Microsoft's servers are under heavy load right now, so if you get an error, just be patient and keep trying.

If the download is stuck at 20%, 70% or 90%, for example, I would recommend that you try installing a little later, because, again, Microsoft servers are under heavy load and this problem occurs most likely for this reason.

If, when trying to update, you receive an error with the code 0x80070057, 0x80070004 0x4000D, then the problem is probably related to your antivirus or other software security. Try disabling or uninstalling your antivirus to fix this problem.

To resolve the error message "Failed to upgrade to Windows 8.1 0xC1900101 - 0x20007" after the installation process has stopped at 76%, try disconnecting your iPhone or other unnecessary peripheral from your PC.

If the Windows Store displays a message stating that your computer is not compatible, open the Run dialog (Win + R), type WSReset.exe and press Enter. If that doesn't solve the problem, download and run the Microsoft Run Apps Troubleshooter to resolve the issue.

And a few more tips:

Disconnect unnecessary peripherals

Disconnect any devices that might be causing the Windows 8.1 installation problem, including printers, external hard drives, USB devices, etc.

Remove third party apps

Remove any applications that might interfere with the update process. For example, antiviruses, old programs and programs that you rarely use.

Free up extra space on your hard drive

This is an offer, not a requirement, but make sure you have at least 10 GB of free hard disk space.

Windows Update

Make sure you have all of the Latest updates Windows. It is possible that the lack of the latest patches from Microsoft is the reason for your problem when upgrading to Windows 8.1.

Advice: if you started the update download process in the Windows Store, but you do not see the download progress, open the Run dialog, enter the command ms-windows-store: installprogress and press Enter.
